Why didn't we sign Hendrickson? These two guys are massive upgrades our defense last year.

It’s kind of ironic because technically Wednesday is the official start of free agency, but these moves are just teams getting ahead of their needs. It’s not all top-tier players either; a lot of Tier 2 and Tier 3 guys signed yesterday as teams looked to fill spots early.

There’s still a big list of free agents, trades to be made, and inevitable cuts ahead—this is far from over. The aggressiveness was good to see, even after missing out on Crosby and Dean, because it showed effort without overpaying. Overpaying can backfire if a player gets hurt or doesn’t fit the system, like when the Eagles signed Brian Huff to a big deal a few years ago and got nothing in return.

That’s why it’s better to stay calm—no need to be overly positive or negative. Just wait and see how it unfolds. Trust the new defensive staff to bring in players who fit their scheme, and remember that even the holdovers could have better seasons with a full, healthier offseason heading into training camp, unlike last year when several key players barely participated and many more were hurt during the season.

Sure, there are still holes to fill, but the additions so far are solid, and there’s plenty of time to find the right fits, even if they’re not stars whose jerseys you’d rush out to buy. The goal isn’t to be top-heavy. Everyone knew there’d be big roster turnover—not just from expiring contracts, but also from cuts and changes under the new regime.

I don’t expect anyone to be overly positive or excited about yesterday or the offseason so far, especially after back-to-back rough years, particularly on defense.

But there’s no need to go to the extreme and act like the season is already lost just because not every move was made on day one of the tampering period. Free agency doesn’t even officially open until Wednesday, and thinking it’s over already, is simply not true.

For those feeling frustrated, it might be better to wait and see how things unfold over the rest of the offseason.

The team is being built to start in September, not today, and the belief that all the top-tier players were signed yesterday is false—there was a mix of Tier 1, Tier 2, role players, and special teams' signings.

Plenty of good players remain available, and trades are also an option.

I hope they add more pieces in the next couple of days to ease fan concerns. Personally, I’m feeling neutral right now—I think they did well yesterday, though I’m a little disappointed they didn’t land the linebacker they were targeting.

Still, there’s time, and I like the aggressiveness they’ve shown in pursuing players like Crosby and Dean. Even if they don’t get them, it shows they’re willing to make moves and still have opportunities to follow through on their offseason plans.
