What’s this say about Mazi

https://www.ourlads.com/nfldepthcharts/archive/275/ATL

Given that Huggins was legitimately regarded as ATL's back-up NT last season from start to finish.

Me, I think this says we finally... finally... finally... have someone on the roster who legitimately can claim to have played in the NFL for awhile and can serve as the DT-1 back-up. That's been my main concern.. we seemed to think a 7th round draft pick needs no actual competition to have to earn that place on the roster.

I also think this says they genuinely don't intend to give Mazi any serious competition for the #1 slot... they've purposely signed someone who can't seriously be considered a candidate to threaten him.

And and. I also think this says that they genuinely think Justin Rogers can win the back-up slot... they've purposely signed someone who almost certainly is not a lock to win the job.

And and and. I think this retires my hope to see Lawrence Guy finish his career in Big D. Oh well.

Kevin Strong... all 295 pounds of him and 28 yrs old... started 11 games for ARZ last season. And here's something you don't see every day. He began the season as their back-up NT in a 3-4 defense per OurLads... he ended the season as their starting RDE. Seems more than just a camp body signing... could conceivably win a job... if he signs. It appears he's only worked out.

Nick Vigil is washed at 30 years old. Didn't play a single down on defense last season, but got some time on special teams. Looks like a Paul Guenther buddy, since they spent time together in Cincy.

Darius Harris might not be washed at 28, but he's in that same boat--not a single down on defense last season, but got some time on special teams. Practice squad candidate at best.

re: Connor Williams

Sorry, all you calling and texting me to leave your apology, having demanded months ago that Williams' knee was too far gone and he'd be retiring. Too many of you for my phone to handle.

But I do appreciate your integrity in acknowledging your mistake. :D

Chum baby Chum…
Yes, but pay attention to Huggins signing. Conventional wisdom would seem to say he's either going to be Mazi's backup and force Rogers to the practice squad, or vice versa.

That they worked out Strong makes you wonder how that figures into the mix, given his apparent versatility playing all D-line positions. Are they already regretting one of their DE signings from last week, or are they disappointed by what they're seeing from Golston maybe?
