Signed by Cowboys Cowboys sign LB Nick Vigil and DT Albert Huggins

Nonsense.

Vigil is 30. He had zero... zero... defensive snaps all of last season. He's only had 84 snaps over the last two seasons.

He's a camp body who, when Kendricks isn't on the field, can tell everyone where to line up. That's about it, if we're being rational.

He's also been battling injuries the last two years. From DC.com:

Vigil, a third-round pick of the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2016 NFL Draft, reunites with Zimmer after having started 12 games and accounting for 85 tackles for the Minnesota Vikings in 2021. He also reunites with Cowboys defensive run game coordinator Paul Guenther who was Vigil's defensive coordinator in Cincinnati for two seasons. The last two seasons have seen Vigil battle some injuries that kept him on the injured reserve in 2022 and resorted him to the practice squad for the Vikings in 2023.

He did play in 8 games the last half of the season, so it wasn't just a matter of injury.

Can we say 100% he can't make the 53 man? Of course not. We don't have that kind of insider intel to be able to be 100% about much of anything.

Think we can say 90+%, though, just based on what the numbers say.

I don't know. I just know what I read, and that's that he played in Minnesota and did well in 2021 and then he fought injuries the next two years. The thing about injuries is they can sap any speed that you had in a hurry. So he may be done, but I'm OK with them taking a look to see if he can get back to that 2021 form.

One year removed from being an asset, sure.

Two years removed, and one of those years being clearly not chosen to spend any time at all on the field with the defense?

In a year you will celebrate your 31st birthday?

90+%, this is a camp body. He will serve his purpose, and that's fine. Why would you not, if you have a vacancy to fill. And who knows, maybe he'll look back on this reunion and be able to see it as the time he got people talking about hiring him as a LB or ST coach.

Albert Huggins signing is the one of the three worthy of talking about as having real potential impact on the 53 man.

All three are cheap signings, so I don't expect much from any of them. Of course, I don't expect much of their competition for roster spots, either.

Vigil might be fighting for a sixth LB spot with Damien Wilson, who is equally as old and removed from his best season. Huggins has got to beat out a late-round rookie (Rogers) and some UDFAs (Davis and Daxon, who'll be kept on the PS as a foreign roster exemption).

Remember Jerry once said that's not always their goal when bringing players but training camp gives them a chance to see if can help later in the season ......if needed.

Agreed. Huggins poses the greatest threat, and mainly only because the only other serious options are a 7th round rookie and a guy we signed last year only after another team cut him from their practice squad.... meanwhile Huggins actually stuck on a 53-man roster for the full 2023 season, got snaps, and at least was a JAG in ATL.

Special teams may be Vigil's way onto the roster. If the DC and run coord are familiar with him and could trust him to play in a pinch and he shows more than a UDFA on STs then he may be an initial 53er or callup from the practice squad.
