Signed by Cowboys Cowboys sign OL Rob Jones

He was in the wrong system, Mike McDaniel got their in 2022 and changed the running scheme to outside zone. He was already on the team and was used out of necessity.

He isn't the most fluid mover, and in that scheme he was always a step or two out of position because of all the pulling trying to get to the edge.

He might not be the best signing, but he should fair better in the Cowboys scheme.

Well I guess my prediction of signing a veteran guy on day 3 that we all had to Google to know who he was but started 20 games the last few seasons was pretty far off. Because here we're on day 1 signing a guy that we all had to google that has started 29 games the last few seasons.

I’m surprised Adams opted for Jones over Will Hernandez who likely cost the same

Well same strategy boys
Sign cheap guys to one year deals
I think we like our guys and just wanted to get someone to compete but possibly be a backup. (Needed one at RT after Edoga signed elsewhere.)

I didn't think we'd sign any surefire OL starters. Of course, all our FAs will be cheap, so most are going to be placeholders at best.

Thanks for the insight. Seems like an Edoga replacement, not necessarily a starter.

No, I think the starters right now would be Guyton, Smith, Bebee, Hoffman, and Steele. I see this guy as a backup and depth piece.
I think so. He's our Edoga replacement. Can backup guard and right tackle. Richards is the LT backup.

This seems to be the strategy. One guy one, cheap vet guy in.

Dowdle and Zeke out - Williams in.

Edoga out - Jones in.

My main issue is they finally have money. Spend on 2-3 starters for once!

Don’t forget Waletzko
I don't think we're counting on Waletzko. They wanted a veteran who has shown he can start to be the backup. We've done this for several years now, finding our top backup among failed starters, players teams cast off for improvements.

The Jones boys are getting a head start on the dumpster diving. Always ahead of the curve, those two.
Seems to be the new approach this year. Instead of waiting, they are just going after the cheap guys right away. They probably are casting a wide net: Wanted OL who can play guard or tackle and will play for less than $5 million. Whoever answers the ad gets the job.

Robert Jones(6'4, 320) Middle Tennessee...26 yrs old

Starter at LG for the for the past year and a half for the Dolphins.

I actually really like this pick, I thought he would have gotten more than this in FA.

Drafting a G is probably off the table now. It adds enough depth.

Vet Swing Tackle is still a need. Maybe just bring Tyron Smith back on a 1 year deal.
Asim Richards handled backup LT fine.
