I can absolutely say that right now. They are cheap.

It is why they don't participate in free agency, and it is why they are taking the most expensive path, against the cap, with Pickens.

Well not having the cash is not "cheap" though. Because Dak's contract is far from cheap. Osa wasn't cheap. Lamb wasn't cheap. They spend money. They spend it on their own players.

What?

Saving salary cap dollars means spending cash in guarantees. Instead of paying Pickens, say, $50m in cash with a $18m cap hit this year with an extension, he's paying $27m cash with a $27m cap hit. The issue is that Jerry doesn't want to cough up that other $20m or whatever it is.

Cash and cap aren't the same. The more cash you spend, the less you spend against the cap, to a degree.

I got you now. This team's lack of urgency is maddening. They rarely sign key players early. Then the market continually resets and they end up having to overpay. Then they do overpay their guys; which in turn becomes the built-in excuse for being inactive in free agency.
