Per PFT - The Cowboys have asked LB Dan Connor to take a pay cut, per source with knowledge of the situation. He'll be released soon if he declines.

What was his salary and cap hit going to be?
What will it be if they cut him?

Even if he played for free, I wouldn't want him.

When was the last time a player accepted a pay cut?

It happens all the time. Vets with big salaries are cut if they don't take pay cuts. Unless they think they can get more as a FA, many will take the new deal to stay with a team and keep on receiving a pay check.

Connor's cap hit this year would be $4.35 million. That includes a $3M base salary (unguaranteed) and the 2013 prorated part of his signing bonus, which will be $1.35M, regardless if he's cut or not.

So if he is cut, they save the $3M (his 2013 base) against the cap.

I think the minimum veteran's salary for his tenure level for 2013 is $715,000. I'd guess that's about what they would be offering him.

To suck as badly as he did last year he should take a paycut, he may want to stay around his buddy and also prevent another move.

Dominic Raiola from DET is the latest example who took a big pay cut from $4m to stay with the Lions.

“That was kind of when I got a little uncomfortable, starting to have thoughts in my head: 'Can I play for somebody else? Do I want to play for somebody else?'” Raiola said. “I didn’t even want to entertain the thoughts. It’s been going on for a couple weeks now. The bottom line is I didn’t want to go anywhere else.”
Raiola agreed Tuesday to restructure the final year of his deal and will return for his 13th season with the Lions.
