When was the last time a player accepted a pay cut?

The question for Connor is, what is the chance that he can earn more than the vet minimum somewhere else if he declines the pay cut? (This includes a guess on my part that the team is offering near the vet minimum). He might or might not get an offer of more elsewhere. So is the offer in hand worth more than the risk of not getting an offer at all that is significantly better from someone else?

Examples?

Mike Vick, Nate Burleson and Josh Cribbs are 3 others I just found. Nmandi Asomugha is being asked to take one right now or risk being cut.

The real question is why we gave a spare like him so much to start with. That money always seemed too big for him.

If he turned out to be a starter, we got a bargain. If not we can cut him with a minimal cap hit. It's a cheap insurance policy against Lee and Carter.

A significant amount, between two LBs Dallas saves 7 million vs the cap. Another restructer (ie. Tony Romo) Dallas could Franchise Spencer afterall.

Connor was GARBAGE last year. Get him out of here!!

But, here is to the imbeciles who signed him to a contract in good faith but now want to opt out because they cannot manage their own finances.

Cheers, Jerry and Stephen. And goodbye, you bum.

The complaining about how he'd project to a 3-4 after the fact is just rank second-guessing.

I am surprised, though, that they're considering him an option for a 4-3 backer, even in a limited role. Even as a two-down SLB, his speed's questionable. He's not a particularly good blitzer. They must just appreciate his attitude, effort, and role in the LB corps and want someone with some starts under his belt going into the draft. Personally, I like Albright at SLB a lot better than I'd like Connor. Or we could pick up one of the Bears FA LBs along with a late-round draft pick to try to round out that position.

Yeah, yet he seemed to be strangely lauded in the offseason.

Not sure if he ever was considered a starter, more of a situational guy at best, that they overpaid for to help stop the run. That almost seems to be the situation with the interior Offensive linemen that we signed last season, although in their case, they did prove effective in stopping the run.

For the vet minimum he is merely camp fodder or a backup if there are enough injuries. I'm not interested in him o/w.

Insurance, in case Carter wasn't ready for a starters role.

Exactly.

Fine to drop him now if he doesn't take the cut.

That gets us to a 7 million cap reduction in just a few days with him (3) and Ware (4).

A lot of teams thought he projected better to the 3-4 ILB position, where he had less ground to cover in pass coverage. Plus, he's a youngish guy with playing experience and the right kind of guy to have in your locker room. He's just not fast enough to play well at this level.

I like the guy, and I thought being reunited with Sean Lee was going to be really good for him here in Dallas. But he's unlikely to see much playing time in a 4-3. I'm surprised we're not just going in another direction with his roster spot.
