Jerry likes to hire older men he can relate too. Particularly older out of work men with no options and no leverage. Older out of work men that are of no threat to Jerry's authority and someone that will tow the company line. Older out of work men that Jerry can completely control and manipulate.

This is fine.

At least, fine compared to the possibility of Rivera.

No matter what, we aren't gonna get a top guy to come in for a lame duck year. So whatever.

Life as a modern-day Cowboys fan is becoming comfortable with managing your expectations

..this guy will be interesting. He's one of those under radar type.

His Viks D, beat SF this last year. They probably make playoffs if Kurt doesnt go down.

Theres only one thing I want….whoever the DC is for 2024 is not forced on the new HC for 2025, which seems to be a foregone conclusion, but the geniuses don’t see how that is problematic.

Just as long as they don’t have to eat coach contracts.

Next year is essentially a throwaway, meanwhile it’s the best shot they are going to have for quite a while.

They will spend another few season trying to hang on to what they see as an open window, then when it fully implodes there might be like a 10% shot that they make some real changes.

But I don’t ever see the kid allowing a GM to make decisions on pricey free agents, so even if they actually hire one, it won’t really matter.

They need to luck into a really bad season that happens to coincide with a no doubt type of Peyton Manning QB.

I’ve spent way too long hoping these two would step in poop and win in spite of themselves, but that’s over. This league is too good and too competitive to not be at a huge disadvantage with the clown duo.

I would like to have seen us start over with a bright, strong young OC, who could choose his own DC, but that just is not happening.

Based on the reality of the situation, I think Zimmer is probably the best possible pick.

First off, Jerry likes and trusts him, so I think he will give him a little leeway to instill more discipline in the defense, which leads to the second point, Zimmer is a hard-nosed coach. I think we need that. I think he will hold our defensive players a little more accountable.
Next, his defenses, either as a DC or an HC were almost always good, sometimes great. Wink and Rivera can't say that. They had some years that were real stinkers.
Last, he is good against the Shannahan tree, which we need if we have any chance at all to advance in the NFC playoffs.
