The only connection I see here is that Marinelli was head coach of the Lions when he was drafted by them(7th round). Looks like he's bounced around quite a bit since then.

My completely speculative guess here is that we bring him in as a camp body to fill out the rotation for a few weeks until Spencer can practice again.
