The general takeaway from Bills fans is thought Elam was really good at man but sucked in zone. My understanding is that Eberflus plays primarily zone coverages which makes this move a head scratcher.

isnt Cover 1 single high safety with man coverage with your corners?the Bears seemed to have played cover 1 at 16.5% and zone cover 2 at 15.9%. under Eberflus last season. if we are going to so much zone than its not drafting corners high at all imo.most of our corners on our roster are more suited for man coverage too.

The way I’m read that chart is Eberflus had his defense playing in zone ~85% of the time.

Even if we were to say they played a man version of Cover 2, his secondaries played in zone nearly two-thirds of the time.

The takeaway being that Elam wouldn’t seem to be an obvious fit if you hear Bills fans analysis of the player.

Thanks for tracking this down. This stuck in my mind only because Romo is usually guarded when criticizing players during his games. Not this time. And you could tell whoever he spoke with on the Bills staff basically didnt want Elam on the field.

Kid is 23. My gosh, this was well worth a dart throw. Plus we will draft a good CB or two. I have no issue with getting him. Sometimes it's a matter of scheme fit, and just getting an opportunity.

yes i am very curious to how Eberfllus plays our defense,we are not built for 85% zone,we just dont have the players for it.
