TRADED Cowboys trade for George Pickens and 2027 6th for 2026 3rd and 2027 5th

We said the same thing last year and the front office was about 10x as active as they were last year. Again I'm just not seeing your point. We saw value with a WR for a third round pick who has a ton of talent and he is young and might get another contract with us. It was worth the risk to the front office to see how it plays out. Trading for a DT is not so easy. And we literally traded for a career starter at LB. But you act like we didn't also sign Jack Sanborn who is likely a starting caliber run stopping LB. And yes they also added one with a late round pick. But that's on top of Marist/Overshown/Clark/Bell. We have plenty of depth at that position. It shouldn't be any kind of major weakness by any means.
He’s UFA.

His agent would have to accept an extension. Unlikely.

so, we shouldn't try? The trade was a great move and only one team wins the SB but you have to try and Pickens makes us a way better team

My hope is he balls out and the resign him
trade was a good move, not great. if we were one player away from being a championship contender, then yeah, great move. the fact is we are not a championship contender, we are barely a contender for our own division. so a one year rental to appease the fans. I called this mid last season after the season was falling apart. Jerry tried with mingo in a desparate move, which back fired...he was going to make a splashy move this off season and this was it. bring fans back. bring hope back. get fans back to the stadium. sell merchandize.

and if we resign him, that's another question. if he balls out, he will want upward of 30M/year...so then we would have 64M invested in WR. tell me results of teams that have done that kind of investment.

who says we are not a contender? The team was 12-5 just two seasons ago. They made several moves in the offseason. Looks like our 4 top picks should all contribute straight away. The run game should be better this season then the last few with simply having a HC that is committed to it. New O & D schemes. I see a lot of good on this team. You never know if the team can gel. But I do know that Pickens makes us a lot closer.

we failed to fortify the DT position. same guys as before who couldn't stop the run.
we failed to upgrade the LB position. bunch of JAGs and other teams cast offs.
we failed to upgrade the Saftey position
we have three CBs whow are coming off major surgeries.

this is the same defense who got raped on the ground three years in a row, including two years ago.

and new Defensive and Offensive schemes take time to come together....so that makes it even harder.

I don't think this team can gel. that would be a pipe dream for many. reality says otherwise.

so not a contender. trade for a player on one year deal. move down in 3rd round and move down from 5th round.

why?
I applaud your persistence but for almost a week you have asked the same questions and responded with the same answers. Your position is crystal clear but I don’t think you are going to hear what you want to hear from everyone.

At some point, letting it go is the best path forward.

I know. everyone is dug in. the "jerry lover" crowd is going to support him come hell or high water.... to them "everything is awsome".

btw, they can also stop responding to my comments, but they insist.

its slow months now...so it doesn't matter. it will get even worse in July.

I get it. I just think at some point we need to show mercy to this poor horse.

Full disclosure…I’m more in the middle. If they plan to at least make a good faith effort to re-sign him, I’m fine with taking a swing, even if it ultimately fails. But if they know this is a 1 year rental, I would have looked elsewhere.

I’m willing to see it play out and can see reasonable points on both sides. I lean positive with some caveats.

Looked at objectively the trade for George Pickens is fantastic value. Worst case scenario he's a 2 year rental but as others have said if he balls out you know Jerry will somehow sign him to a longer term contract.

It's a great move. Obviously it's a shame the Cowboys don't have a better quarterback to fully utilise him but I suppose he is adept at making circus catches and catching poorly thrown balls so he will make Prescott look better than he actually is as Cooper did previously.

No Jerry or Stephen lover here, but I recognize a good trade when I see it. A terrible trade would have been moving up from 12 to 4, as you dreamed of, for Mason Graham. The DT from Michigan who is no sure thing.

good trade for a one year rental only to have moved down the draft and maybe not even make the playoffs.

Getting Graham would have been a leap but fix the DT issues for years to come. look at KC and Jones manning the middle. collapsing pockets and leading their defense. I bet you can't even name one of their LBs or Safties. yet everyone knows Jones. KC went 15-2, winning 15 games not scoring one time, not a single time over 30 points. a Defense led by Jones.
