I hate it.
Mingo is still only a second year player, and deserves another chance outside of the Panthers dumpster fire. But he has looked brutal so far in the NFL. And I DO NOT want to be giving up future resources to salvage this season. 2024 is a write-off.
So the question is, would I trade a 4th for two seasons of Jonathan Mingo starting in 2025. And I don't think I would. He's not that much better than the guys available in the 4th, and they'd be signing a four-year deal.
In a vacuum, getting Mingo isn't bad, but the real problem here is more in the process. Cooper Rush isn't going to do anything this month, Mingo isn't going to do anything this month, the defense is broken, and this season is flushed. This trade is a "save the season" play on a lost season, and it shows me that Jerry and co just fundamentally aren't seeing the picture.
