Cowboys training camp: UDFA star of the day is Jalen Moreno-Cropper (again)

The Cowboys returned to the practice field Thursday at training camp, and a familiar/unfamiliar face stood out from the crowd once again.

Having gotten an up-close look at camp, here’s what Nick Harris of dallascowboys.com had to say of young receivers second day at training camp

“Jalen Moreno-Cropper is starting to bud into an undrafted free agent star, as the Fresno State product hauled in a touchdown grab on Day 1 and hauled in multiple big receptions during the two-minute drill on Day 2.”

Again…won’t make the team over one of the 3-4 JAGs at WR they end up keeping. Will get stashed, but picked up. Told you this two (2) days ago.

Nice story, but When it comes to these UDFA WRs the most important question is “does he run down and tackle on kickoffs and punts“. If not, the odds of making the roster are incredibly long sans injuries. PS of course is an option.

What was the point of signing him then? Obviously he wasn't a special teams demon.

The same as signing every other UDFA. Camp bodies, potential steals who can make the roster even if down the road, PS guys, injury replacements, hope to catch lightning in a bottle, etc. At least one will make the roster, but don’t fall in love with guys who are playing against other UDFAs in July based on an article you read when you haven’t even seen them yourself.

He has to be a great returner and like said he is going to need to be somewhat effective in gunner position. I wonder how fast he is but they need a speed guy at WR, Cooks is decently fast but they need another one and Turpin seems to be only a specialist and not a WR.

I think we have possibly 2 Jalens in this team's WR room when it is all said and done.

Cowboys have a history of plucking good to great UDFA out of nowheres.

He needs reps........won't get many but think Miles Austin. He needs to ball out with every opportunity.

Every year people say the same thing about 2-3 UDFAs and every year it never happens. Every team passed on him and every team has 2-4 WRs just like him that spent all off season and training camp in their system. No team is taking an UDFA WR who didn’t spend camp learning their system and developing timing with their QB and putting them on their active roster. For that to even be a possibility, he will have shown enough for Dallas to keep him. How many times do we have to hear this same false story?
