Trick question?
No sir. Legit.

They swept New Orleans in 1967 & 1969.

They swept Pittsburgh in 1966.

They swept Tampa in 1990.

I actually forgot that they also swept Minnesota in 1961.

This one is actually tough.

In 1967 & 1969 the Saints were in the NFL Capital Division with Dallas.

In 1961 and 1966 it was prior to the NFL - AFL merger and thus they played Minnesota and Pittsburgh twice in those years and won both games. In the same pre-merger period they also were swept 4 times by the Browns and once by the Packers.

In 1990, the 16 games schedule and 28 team NFL made it so that Tampa ended up on our schedule 2 times in a 3 week period.

Pearson was my guess, only because he was the emergency QB all those years with the team.
Good Trivia questions, all 3 of them.

That still makes no sense to me, I have known for some years hat they played Tampa twice but the reason doesn't suffice by what you've written.

Okay let me try it this way.

There were 3 divisions per conference and 14 teams. That meant that two divisions had 5 teams and 1 division had 4 teams.

In those days you only played 2 games against AFC opponents. That left 14 games. For Dallas, in a 5 team division that was 8 games. Plus the 2 AFC games, that totals 10 games. That year we played the NFC West which had 4 teams. That is 14 games. Since we had finished in last place in 1989 we also then played the last place team from the other NFC Division, which in 1989 was the Buccaneers. That is how we got to 16 games.

See why 32 teams and 4 divisions per Conference is so perfect?

Dallas finished last in 1989, so they only played the last place teams in the two AFC divisions that had 5 teams. The AFC East and AFC West had 5 teams, so Dallas played the Jets and Chargers in 1990. Both those teams finished in last in their divisions in 1989. The rest of the NFC East played the top four teams in the AFC East, which were the Bills, Colts, Dolphins and Patriots.

Correct. And as I said, since Tampa was the other NFC last place team from a 5 team division we did a home and away series with them, which we swept.

The year prior we played Green Bay twice and were swept. That gave us the worst record in the NFL, and with that we had the rights to draft Troy Aikman in the draft. The Packers got Tony Maderich <sp> who turned into a huge bust. At one point during negotiations with the Pack he wanted to get traded to the Cowboys so he could protect Aikman.

Yes right now, it works best the way it is. The only thing I hate, is that we only get Houston once every 4 years, the same with Philly/Pitt, NY/NY, Oak/SF, Mia/TB, Wash/Balt.....

From 1961-66 we played the Eastern conference teams twice a year. They were Cleveland, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, St. Louis and Washington. That made up 12 games and we played two games against a Western Conference opponent for a 14 game schedule. In 1961 Minnesota was an expansion team and the league let us play them twice that year.

What year were we swept by the Packers?

It was actually 1989, not the pre-merger days.
