Serious question- why do fans buy jerseys? I’m not knocking it. I’ve never bought one. Not saying you should or shouldn’t. Just wondering what the appeal is. Any help explaining it?
Personally, I buy them to wear when I go to a bar to watch games. It's how I publicly express my Cowboys Nation pride.

I’ve always worn a cowboys cap- blue with a star on it- when I’m reppin the ‘Boys. I’ve never felt led to buy a jersey but always wondered about those who did.

I recently heard a story on the history of fans buying jerseys on Dallas sports radio “The Ticket” last week. They mentioned that jersey sales did not become a thing until the late 80s- early 90s. I started noticing fans wearing jerseys at games back in the 90s at Texas Stadium. You used see a ton of them then. But when I was a kid watching games at the Cotton Bowl or TS in the 60s and 70s, nobody wore them. Unless they were “home made”.

My grandmother actually made me a Bob Hayes jersey when I was about 10. He was my first Cowboys hero. It actually looked pretty cool. It was white with blue numbers like the home jersey but it didn’t have the sleeve stripes and it didn’t have a name on the back- it was just 22. Wish I still had it.

I think that's the other part of it. There's a wider array of favorite players now, I think, and people want to show their love for the individual player. For instance, my favorite jersey is my Parsons jersey, and when he makes a big play, I turn my back to the other team's fans and point at the name on my back. It's a fun way to talk smack.

I no longer rep the Cowboys.
I would gladly do it if Jerry paid me. I don't advertise for free.
It's so cringe now when I see someone wearing Cowboys merchandise.

Bring back the vintage blues from the 70s.

To each his own. I don't let the actions of the owner affect my allegiance to the team I've loved for close to 50 years.
