Cowboys voted most analytically improved team, per new ESPN survey

For the glass half full Cowboy fans, which is the healthier way to be.

Dallas was chosen as the clear runaway most-improved franchise here over the past two years. The Cowboys have made substantial staffing changes since last summer, when they hired John Park as their director of strategic football operations from the Colts. They’ve since added four more full-time employees to their analytics group in addition to Kathy Evans — a former VP at Monumental Sports (Washington Wizards and Mystics) and a big name in sports analytics — and a pair of strategic football fellows.

“The growth of their team,” an AFC staffer said on why they picked the Cowboys as the most improved. “It’s Dallas, they have more resources than anybody. It’s been cool to see that department grow.”

Wow we are collecting these instead of Lombardi trophies now...

“Increasing success by lowering expectation.“ - Jerry Jones

Oh, so this is the hidden off-season "all in" improvement to the team. We hired more analytics eggheads to churn the numbers in the hopes of showing some positives signs from the team on the field?

How about worrying about hiring people that know football instead of people that know analytics?
Yeah...analytics is all fine and dandy...BUT, that doesn't necessarily translate to better play on the field. I mean, the goal of football is to WIN games. But, if you've got the TOP analytic team in the world, and you still don't have much success, then it is worthless. But, what the heck do I know.

You would think the data from their upgraded analytical metrics would lead them toward addressing their most pressing problems.

And yet.........

Considering their advantage in strategic resources, isn't this a further indictment of the Jones's mismanagement?

The Cowboys are given every advantage. They have a world class training facility. They have a guy with the credentials to be a GM in the position of Director of Personnel. They have advanced strategic resources.

............. and still fail to move past the division round.

What does analytics say about using one of our 2 timeouts that we can't take with us to the 2nd half to avoid a delay of game penalty in the final seconds of the first half? You know, so that the 66 yard FG counts.

McCarthy is head coach. Not John Parks. Not Kathy Evans.
What was the explanation there? Just that the refs were wrong? And the follow up would be yes but why didn’t you call time out…

Did McCarthy answer that?

Then why don't you explain exactly what they do and exactly how it makes us win more games.

I'll wait.
You’ve already proven you’re incapable of grasping the obvious so not going to waste my time. Google it. They use it every game

I can absolutely support analytics, but it would not suprise me at all if it is analytics behind not paying for a RB this offseason.

There was no explanation that I heard. There is nothing you can say.

How did Jimmy Johnson last a day in the NFL without an analytics department.....
