Playcalling was FAR from awful. You point out one play. How was the playcalling when we had a QB would could execute???

That's the point. You can't call the same plays with Weeden that you would call with Romo. We should've thrown on first down a lot today. Arizona was stacking the box to stop Murray and getting one or two yards continuously put Weeden in long down and distances. That's just bad coaching.

QB play was awful. But when you have short yardage situations and the other team know exactly what your going to do. You have to draw up something else. Two games now we were awful in playcalling and have cost us the Washington game. This game also we were awful at playcalling. You don't take Murray out of the game when its 3td and two and expect Weeden to make a completion do you? Even that 4th down run was atrocious. It was so predictable and just a lack of instincts on what to do by our coaching staff.

I wasn't a big fan of the defense today either.

Bro, the defense was the only thing that kept us in the game today for ANY length of time. The offense can't hang them out to dry with that many 3 and outs and turnovers and expect the defense to dig them out every single time. It's not going to happen. I don't care how good your defense is, it will never overcome that level of ineptitude by the other side of the ball. Never.

There was NOTHING the coaches could call which would have been effective without a QB who could execute.

There are no special "Weeden" plays.

If we called a pass on the 4th and short, it would have been incomplete. Simple as that. If we called a sweep, it would have been chased down.

The only play which would have worked would have been to Punt.

Nothing. Nada. Nothing the coaches could have called.

100% agreed. It's just frustrating all together man. Hope Romo plays next week!

100% agree. People need to understand that this defense on it's best day is still average. What it did today was keep us in the game the best it could but when your QB turns the ball over, can't sustain long drives on offense and you can't execute on 4th down on offense it puts the defense is a terrible position. The defense did the best it could today to keep us in this game and give us a chance to win.

If you look at it that way, why didn't the coaching staff just forfeit. They signed Weeden. At least they could use some common sense when he has to play. When you KNOW the defense is going to go all out to stop the run by stacking the box, that's when you throw. It doesn't have to be long pass plays, but you have to try to keep the defense honest at least a bit. Weeden was terrible, but the staff did absolutely nothing to help him out either.

If they called a bomb and it fell incomplete, you'd complain about the playcalling.

If they called a screen and it fell short, you'd complain about the playcalling.

If they playaction, and he got sacked, you'd complain about the playcalling.

If they ran into a stacked DL, you'd complain about the playcalling.

The play calling and the execution both sucked. End. Of. Story.

Honestly, Weeden surpassed even my most pessimistic expectations today. His stint against Washington was encouraging. Ten points in two drives was a solid return, he was accurate, got the ball out quick and didn't try to do too much. Today he couldn't hit the backside of a barn, it was shocking. He stared down his receivers, and just made poor decisions all day.

With all that said, the cowboys were within one score until the 4th quarter. The defense played well until the very end and really kept us in the game against a strong opponent. If Crawford and McClain are not injured long term I am still optimistic we will have a successful season. I think even if Weeden plays versus Jax we will win that game as their defense isn't nearly as strong as Arizona's. I think Weeden will play better and I think more importantly, Murray will be more successful rushing on first down then he was today. After that we have the bye and then hopefully Romo will be in good enough condition to carry on.

While this was a terrible performance by the team, I was much more upset by the loss against an inferior Washington team. This loss was down to poor execution, which can happen. Nobody plays lights out every week. The Washington game was lost purely because of rank stupidity by the coaching staff and Romo. That's unacceptable.

They sure jumped weedens cadence on the 4th down. At least try once to draw them.

My greatest fear is that Jerry Jones is now so afraid of life without Romo that he'll extent his contract another 10 years and convince himself that Romo can play at a high level until he's 50.

Let's go through several more seasons "hoping" Romo can make it through the entire year. This is too laughable.

Yes. They wanted it.
