10 yards from the spot of the foul...i.e. it happened down field not at the line of scrimmage.

Still confused at how they got to 1st and 8. If it was a new set of downs, even with the penalty they should be at 10, right? The penalty adjusts the line of scrimmage not where you are going to… that should be 10 yards from the line of scrimmage. Hence, 1st and 10. Because they had just made a 1st down. Right!?
