I was watching the Cardinals/Eagles championship game this week on NFL network, and I was annoyed to see the progress of the Eagles 2 year TE, Brent Celek, during that game, he was catching everything, and seems to be comparable to Witten in the passing game.

Is anyone else concerned at the skill he has shown?

I didn't see the game live last year due to not being all that enthusiastic about football after the untimely end of our playoff hopes. But when I watched that game this week it got me thinking....

How are the Cowboys going to answer the Eagles this year?

What do you mean you didn't see the game live? If we had won, we would have been in the playoffs.

You're not really a fan are you? Come clean. Confession is good for the soul.

The same way every team does every season for every opponent.

Why do you fear the Eagles?

I don't mean to disparage or diminish Celek's game (because he played very well); however, I too watched the game in question, and if I had to describe it using only one phrase, it would be this:

Wide Open Spaces.

Throughout the second half, there was nary a Cardinal defender within ten yards of Eagle receivers, especially Brent Celek. Even when the Cardinals defense had only three rushers, the Eagles were still getting wide open.

The Cardinals won because of truly awesome performances by Larry Fitzgerald and Kurt Warner and because Donovan McNabb missed a few open throws.

I'm terrified of Brent Celek. He haunts my dreams every night. Celek is such a powerful, imposing figure that he frightens even Chuck Norris.

Behold these awe-inspiring stats:

Celek
27 receptions
318 yards
11.8 yard average
1 touchdown

Greatness personified...or not. For comparison's sake, here are Martellus Bennet's stats:

Bennet
20 receptions
283 yards
14.2 yard average
4 touchdowns

Seriously, dude. Get a grip. Celek would be the third tight end on the Cowboys roster.

Celek is going to be very good. He's why they were fine letting their top TE go. But let's leave Witten out of the conversation for now please. Also, the drafted Cornelius Ingram this year--who may be better than Celek anyway within a year.

I'm glad someone is being reasonable with me. Witten is established, Celek is an up and comer. His stats are not impressive, but his play that day was. I don't think Celek is a complete tight end when you figure in blocking.
I'll give that particular performance by him the benefit of the doubt due to a mediocre secondary of the Cardinals...

Although, Dominique Rogers Cromartie wasn't playing at a mediocre level, I noticed that too!

Look, I'm just saying Celek might be someone we watch out for and don't take for granted like the Cardinals did.

Hey, thanks for your comments, I didn't pay particular attention to the defensive schemes during that game.

Celek's actually a really good player. Eagles are going to be tough this year, no doubt about it. They improved their offense and had a really good draft. Only questions they've got surround the dropoff from their all-world DC being gone and concerns about the health of Westbrook.
