I think the point he was trying to make is that if we'd gone for one, we'd still have to go for 2 here, and probably not make it. At least this way we know we need to leave time for an onside kick attempt. Not saying I agree or disagree, just saying I think that's his point....and it's not as silly as it seems at first glance.
