Cowboys Vs Panthers Week 1 Breakdown!

Mcaffrey will be fun......

And when the defense gets in on Cam they have to hang on.

Poe and Short concern me the most. Connor has struggled against power and Looney isn't Fredbeard. If they push the line of scrimmage and let Kuechly get going downhill, could be a long day for Zeke. Poe got 4 tackles and a sack last year in ATL when Frederick was playing. Hopefully the new look passing game can make enough plays to keep the chains moving.

That's a matchup that could get ugly. Hard to power inside against those two beasts with Looney and Williams leading the way, and Kuechly and Thompson will shoot through our outside zone blocking if we head for the edge.

The outcome of the game will largely hinge on which Cam shows up. He was extremely inconsistent last season, although part of that was due to having essentially no offseason due to shoulder surgery.

You see accusations of inaccuracy thrown around because of his low completion percentages, but those accusations are well...inaccurate. He's had low completion percentages because he's an aggressive, accurate deep thrower, and he's been throwing to wide receivers who aren't particularly good at making plays downfield.

Last year, however, he really dialed back the deep throwing. In fact, he and Dak attempted deep throws (throws over 20 yards downfield) at virtually the same rate, and had virtually the same accuracy percentage on those throws. Cam, however, threw a higher percentage of his passes behind the line of scrimmage than Dak. This was a big departure from 2016, when Cam attempted deep throws at the second highest rate in the league.

It'll be interesting to see if the deep ball returns this week. McCaffrey's usage will be something to watch too. Cam struggled connecting with him last year (CMC saw the lowest rate of accurate targets of any RB with at least 30 targets). He was also misused as the dive on triple option plays and runs up the middle early on, but later they started using him on option routes, which he excels at. He was used as a decoy a lot last season too because defenses would freak out when they saw him.

Unless DJ Moore starts hot out of the gate or Olsen finds the fountain of youth, the Panthers still lack that big-time vertical threat that Cam needs. Let's see if the Hot Boyz can make the bad version of Cam show up on Sunday.

Should be an easy win for the Cowboys. Our top 5 defense against their offense with no line? They shouldn't score more than 10 points. But we'll have to see if Garrett's strategy of preseason cup cake pays off.

As much as I want to agree with you, we still have to put points on the board. I want these WR's to show me, not tell me.

This, it should be a breakout feast on Cam for sure.

They're going to immediately show 8\9 man fronts and say DAK, you and those new receivers that you haven't had much game time with will have to SHOW US and win it..they're D will be turnt up and buzzing with the opening game at home.we'll need a turnover or two to pull this off.

I just moved 45 minutes away from Wilmington NC

I live in Wilmington.. Lots of cowboy fans to be found lol.. I'm really new to your boards, so it may be a time thing,, but I can't "like" anyones's post. The only option is to reply,, some good post here though..

I get the same here in the triad portion of NC. Still sport my Cowboys shirt all over. Everyone ask if I am from Dallas. No just grew up loving Roger, Tom and TD.

Well, I feel right at home here on this message board.. all these North Carolinians,, ( not Tar Heels lol ) , making it Dallas East .. Oh wait.. I'm rooting for the Panthers lol.. This season can't get started soon enough.. I have 2 Cowboy fans that live within a block of me .. kinda use to it ..

Cant say that about your Forum. There are only stupid memes and insults in the game day thread. Not one serious discussion about the game.

This will be a good game and can go either way.
We are a good road team, so that takes away some of the HFA they have.

If we can contain Newton, get after him a bit, can be key. I don't fear their offense if we can contain him.
Not sure what the Panthers D will be like this year, as I don't think they are strong as they once were.
But I have no idea what they did to improve on either side of the ball, but same goes, I don't know what they lost on each side either. Other than their OL has issues.

Our key as I said, contain Newton, get after him, get him out of his game. Then on offense, take what they give us, Dak needs to be smart with the ball. OL holds up, and Zeke is effective we should move the ball.

Since Zeke hasn't had real football contact since January, I think he has a slow game. Aside from the holding out rbs, was there another starting rb that sat the entire preseason?

Le'veon Bell (who held himself out, same as last season) and his 1st game last year was a bust, took him a week to get going. I hope the same thing doesn't happen to Zeke, it shouldn't he did have all of training camp but not playing in any preseason game is going to leave a little rust on him for sure

They are extremely worried about their oline and they should be.

I talked to a Panther fan the other day that was glad that they atleast had Kalil playing and now that’s not going to happen. That is the biggest advantage we have in the game in my opinion.

If we can’t exploit their horrible offensive line and get sacks and create some turnovers then we will probably lose the game.

Cam has had accuracy issues and if we can get them in some 3rd and longs then he will have a hard time hitting down the field most of the time. Cam still has a rocket for an arm and can break 50 yard runs so we will have to keep him in the pocket.

Their defense should have no problem containing our offense. Even with Davis out their front 7 is outstanding. With that said, their secondary is young and the weak spot of the unit. They will use seven in the box and occasionally bring in an eighth and will surely send an extra guy at dak atleast 30 percent of the time. Their d creates turnovers and sacks so ball security is the key as always.

Ultimately they are going to try and scheme their way around their deficiencies on the oline. It’s going to come down to coaching and frankly Ron Rivera and his staff are in another league than what we have in my opinion.

Let’s hope dak and this offense can surprise us and pop off some plays down the field and zeke can wear them down. I’m still fairly confident in our oline and running game. Let’s pound the rock and watch them start to wear down in the 2nd half.

Let’s Go!!!!!

Zeke sat out last year and started pretty slow. He had a TON of carries against the Giants and barely got 100 yards. In Game 2, he had 8 yards against Denver, yes 8 yards. In game three, he had 80 yards against the Cardinals on 22 carries, and one of them was for 30...not good. And against the Rams he 85 yards with more than 20 carries, but one of them for 16 and another for 15...Gurley outclassed him. He started to warm up after that game, then was suspended.

Not sure about Gurley, if not, then he didn't play much.
I m not concerned as much with Zeke, as I am the entire offense. Did not get much playing time at all together.
