Yes, this is the Super Bowl matchup that was "supposed to be" this year, but took an un-expected turn.
Here's my breakdown of the two most talented teams in the National Football League:
Patriots:
1) Very well coached.
2) Polished QB in his 6th year as starting QB. Makes virtually no mistakes or misfires.
3) Explosive receivers.
4) Knock-em-dead running back with a knack for the end zone.
5) Average defense with an aging core.
6) Excellent offensive line.
7) Very focused team, with a killer instinct that plays every possession like it is there last.
8) VERY disciplined team that makes hardly any mistakes (penalties, turnobvers, etc).
Cowboys:
1) Moderate coaching with above average play-calling for the most part.
2) Above average, agile QB that is very competive in his 2nd year as starting QB. His competiveness, which makes him great, also gets him into making mistakes at times.
3) Explosive receivers that are above average, but tend to occasionally drop the ball at crucial times.
4) Knock-em-dead running back with a knack for the end zone.
5) Average defense with potential playmakers and a young core.
6) Excellent offensive line with some age on them.
7) Team does not have killer instinct at times. Tends to occasionally assume offense will blow opponent out and does not play every possession focused.
8) Very undisciplined team that commits large amount of penalties and learning QB that forces ball at times.
The way I see this, the Cowboys have at least equal or superior talent than New England. The common denominator in this is discipline...that's what seperates us from them right now. This boils down from coaching, etc.
My point is not to show something you already know, but that this team can be championship caliber with a little maturity and disclipline. Yes, we have age at some positions (as well as below average talent) and hopefully we can address that.
