Posts like this discredit themselves a bit.
Dallas has not followed any one methodology for 27 years.
And they certainly haven't been run by the same primary football guy for 27 years.
But what is absolutely true is the last 6-7 years or so have pivoted to this budget model and they have been a player or two short in the good seasons of which there have been a large handful over that same period.
The team did not go crazy on Dak's rookie deal even though they rode it into the ground costing themselves more later.
They never seemed to pick a 2-year window and aim to it as the "all-in" phase.
Past champs Philly, LA, TB have done so.
All that said Dallas lived off the go all in model for the start of free agency and Stephen actually invented many of the scheduled restructure type items in contracts today.
He is my arch-nemesis but we also gotta deal in truth.
A big reason why we have been 27 years was the absolute trash can we were during the Campo years where we paid off cap debts while having zero draft success or quality draft picks.
Trading premium picks for Joey Galloway and RW11.. ooofffff.
This season is an all in progression season for the entire coaching staff. Stephen has already marked the talent levels and what the cash flow will in fact allow, not just in theories.
Moore has to over come last season's opponent tendencies as well as meet the function of production with older or less proven players right now. But money is not at this point, a productive and active part of process, except as the roster projects into the near future years.
Opponents used a lot of man up secondary coverages, to challenge the running game as well as forcing routes into shorter routes.
This is added with two deep and where even more numerous plays where a top is put on deeper and longer developing routes.
Opponents challenged Dallas to be able to run the ball for an entire season, and personnel last season couldn't handle that. Dak Prescott doesn't make quick route selections, and when San Francisco dominated and controlled the Cowboy offense, the movement out of the playoffs wasn't long in coming.
The Cowboys have to be able to push defenses to respect their run game...or they will be hampered all season.
The defense, barring major injuries, will be even more of an influence. This is if the defensive line remains healthy and the secondary continues to project strongly...even improving under the Defensive Coordinator, Dan Quin.
Both coordinators have to be able to now make in - game adjustments and interact much more strongly as a team.
There is some strong and young/tough talent, but they have to be ready to answer the opening of the first whistle and take that path the remainder of this season. Two very important games start the Dallas season, and no excuses will be given pardons now.
Excuses be damned. Show up ready to exchange punches and push direction their selves.
