Judas Priest, how many times are we going to leave the RBs wide open over the middle/in the flat?
..our Achilles Heel all year.
Ellis is not going to be able to cover RB's and will wear down over the year trying to and Ware is not a cover LBer, either.
I think Carpenter is going to be starting on the outside before 3-4 games goes by as we get exposed with RB's catching passes all day and extending drives and TOP.
Minnesota is the first team that has the offensive players that can take advantage of the defense and it's weaknesses at LBer.
I'm also curious if Burnett doesn't get some time at outside LBer, too as time goes on.
We are going to have to get speed on the outside that can blitz or cover.
Ellis is strictly a passrush player.
He can be used inside the opponents 30 and inside our our 20 when the other team is in our Redzone where we want more beef and a pressure LBer.
But at mid-field, I think he's a liability as a good offensive team is going to attack both him and Ware when they open up their offense and do play action.
We'll see.
But I think it's the weakest part of our defense and it's still not sound as long as Ellis is the starting LBer opposite Ware.
I thought the whole thing about getting Carpenter was to have a versatile LBer that could both rush and pass cover and stop the run..? Somebody to compliment Ware.
Ellis doesn't do that.
Hmmm...
