I get a front office wanting to make sure a coach has some say in the draft room. But when Quinn was hired Sturm had an article on the Falcons and their fall from their SB grace. It pointed that Quinn had more say in the draft and well, his drafts weren't that good. Hence the fall of the Falcons, especially defensively, after missing on a lot of defensive draft picks. Their defense towards the end of his HC career there was awful. Hell, our comeback was the nail in his coffin.

And here, outside of Parsons landing to them in the 1st, thanks in large part to the opt out, they had a lot of straight up whiffs. Wright was unplayable. Cox was quickly cut-and we needed LBers.
Kelvin Joseph was a red flag and was quickly traded for another CB who couldn't see the field. TBD on Golston, but he seems to be just depth.
Quinn was super high on Sam Williams, who has been more potential than substance. Bone headed player at times too.

Who knows, maybe the scouts were also over optimistic on some of theses guys, focusing more on the strengths than weaknesses. There will be disappointing picks or busts. But for a team that solely relies on the draft for talent, missing out on handful of players taken in round 3-4 hurt.

Liked Durden but no chance he makes the team over Flournoy and Brooks.

Fehoko was a giant reach. Defensive end with no athleticism, possible DT even though he never played it. He’s the kind of guy you maybe gamble on in the 7th round. You definitely do not draft him in the 4th round; I don't care how much a scout or assistant coach loves him. Some things are obvious and watching him rush the passer in the Mountain West Conference should have told everyone this guy was not 4th round worthy.

That pick could/should have easily been Israel Abanikanda.
100% agree. Huge over reach spending a 4th.

Lets be fair it was Pick 129 yes a 4th but a late 4th, at 129 most players are huge project players.
There are many very notable 4th rd picks. Either way the dude shouldve been a 7th. 6th at best. At least from what hes done so far.

The consensus on him was a 7th round pick/UDFA guy. Round 3 was incredibly rich. Limited athleticism, too stiff, and his technique needed a lot of work. A few years in the league and no one has fixed his stance. He's long and he starts in a flamingo-like stance which guarantees a wasted step when he triggers. Baffled me.

It only takes one team and unfortunately too many times, we are that one team.
Thats what happens when they value size over production.
Its one thing to take a flyer on a player in the 6th or 7th based on physical attributes. Its another when you do so in the first 3 rounds.

Yes because coaches should have no say beyond I want a player for my defense/offense.
Coaches should talk about and input on the kind of traits they want in players at certain positions. Nothing more.
