Cowboys want to play HOF Game

PHOENIX _ The Cowboys are one of the teams under consideration to open the pre-season in the Hall of Fame Game.

A decision on the two teams that will play in Canton on Aug. 4 is expected this week at the NFL Meetings. The Cowboys would welcome the chance to schedule the additional pre-season game _ bumping their total to five _ to aid in their transition to a 4-3 defense under new defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin.

It would be nice for them to be there when Larry Allen gets inducted. Plus the extra game could help the new coaches get acclimated. As long as there are no injuries due to the extra game, it's a plus.

That was my first thought as well, plus if the Cowboys are involve it equal high ratings for the network hosting the game.

I'm sure a team doesn't want to miss out on the revenue they'd gain from having the cowboys come to town.

I'd love to see us play in this game again this year. I went up in 2010 for Emmitt's induction and the game and i have to recommend it, i think I could visit the hall once a week and it would never get old.

I would imagine that Wimbley or wherever they play compensates for the lost money.

I wouldn't be shocked if they get to choose whatever game they want so long as they are willing to pay the amount lost to the teams.

Bring the Boys to Canton. I was at the last HOF game hey played in and if they play at this one I will be there too.

I got to meet my favorite Cowboy player as part of the half time show quite a few years back. I walked right up to Tony D. and introduced myself. Funny thing is I was willing to pay up to $300 just for a signing session with him a few years earlier and he canceled. Then I got to meet him for free!

Weigh that against an east coast trip from Oxnard in the middle of camp, the potential for injury, lost practice time, etc.

Sounds like someone who longs to be the center of all media attention for a weekend at the expense of the overall good of the team is behind this.

Can't wait to hear about how they won the Super Bowl the year they went to Japan in the preseason story yet again.

It's a extra game for them to look at the non-starters and hopefully find some UDFAs that can play football.

It is because of the extra training camp days, not the extra game. Your veterans report based on when your first preseason game is. Last year the Cardinals played the Hall of Fame game for their first preseason game and could report to camp July 23rd. The Cowboys played Monday Night Football and couldn't report until July 29th.

So, it seems that the Cowboys are in the running for the Hall Of Fame game this year.

The last time they played was when Emmitt was inducted, and now it might be possible that they will play for Larry's induction.

Another reason the Cowboys would like to play the extra pre-season game is so that the defense can have more experience in the switch to the 4-3.

If this has been posted elsewhere, I have not seen it, so please merge.
