Jerry wanted to draft Ogbah at the top of the 2nd and then trade back into the round for Jaylon Smith...

That would have been amazing. But alas Jerry didnt pull it off. He also wanted to take the QB and trade up for him and failed there as well.

I mean you have to overpay to get what you want. Its rare a team lets you get over on them especially when they have something you want.

I think overpaying, a fair deal and getting over are three different things.

Jerry should have stuck to his plan of drafting a premium defensive player at 34 (Spence, Jack, etc.) and trading up for Jaylon Smith. That was a sound plan and even with Ogbah off the table, it was still the right idea.

Its not that they couldn't do it. They WOULDN'T. Some of these deals could've been made if they would've gave up a 3rd instead of a 4th it seems. That's what I get from it.

I wouldve liked Ogbah and Jaylan with those 2nd rounders but I have no problem with how it ended up and they shouldn't either. Some of those picks were too steep and i'm not sure if we end up with Tapper and Preskott if we do those moves.

Looks like they had a plan and a price they were willing to pay, not only in free agency but the draft. I like the fact they stuck to their guns and their plan

As do I. You have to admire that they at least have a plan whether we like the plan or not.

That woulda been amazing. I'm guessing we would've given up our 3rd and one of our 4ths. So we could've had Zeke, Ogbah, Smith, then we could've taken Collins with our other 4th if he was still there, if not then we could've taken the chance on Billings or taken Hassan Ridgeway.

That seems to be the story of this draft for me. I mean I respect their scouts but I didn't like Lynch or Ogbah or Connor Cook. Especially enough to trade up for them. It seems like they may have dodged a bullet by not trading up.

I would have been ok with them, but not with giving up additional draft picks to acquire them. I'm happy that we stayed put. We need bodies. We're far from the one player away mentality that Jerry lived on. I hope to think we came away with 2-4 future starters, and 2-4 solid rotational contributors. That's reasonable to assume. We can't be giving up multiple picks (Joey Galloway, Roy Williams, Mo Claiborne, etc.) for a single player. That's never worked for us.

If we could have went Jack then came back in and got Smith that would have been a big deal for us

I don't know about that. Didn't we trade up for Dez and Sean Lee?

Other than Jack & Spence I don't think they saw a premium defensive player and they deemed Jack & Spence as bigger risks than Smith.
