Be honest the last 2 years, when it came to the good teams we could never get going on the offense side. We did do OK on the D side in most of those games. Now against some of the teams not as good the D could not get a stop to save their lives like Sunday. Also if not getting TO are playing from behind this D was suspect. Also Parsons playing DE is not for him.

If you bought in this was a legit SB contender then I’d argue was over hyped.

Did we underperform, of course .
Oh no I did not buy that. Nobody really thought they could beat San Fran did they? Now I was hoping somebody else could do that!

Yes , we are always over hyped.

But I’d argue the SB Hype was elevated this season . Especially after gaining 2 Seed.
Sure, based on what I don't know. The media kept going favorites to win the SB. Ummmm based on what? Teams that win the SB don't get absolutely hammered in several games through the year.

I was guilty of thinking this year was different: a top 5 offense and defense, Dak the subject of MVP discussions most of the year, a blemish-free home stand and the number 2 seed.

Two weeks ago, I thought the Cowboys were a shoo-in for the NFC championship game and, hopefully, redemption for recent loses to SF.

I an still a bit shell-shocked by this loss. I am not really sure where they go from here - it seems fairly obvious that nothing short of radical change will affect the outcome. Said another way, I do not see (at least at this point) incremental change correcting what ails the Cowboys.

Foget the quarter century of frustration; this season's end has really tarnished the Cowboy's brand.

They have been overhyped by Jerry Jones, the media and this fan base for the past 28 years!

Not nearly as much time as Love. He was scrambling a lot.
On the big throws Love made that I remember he had pressure bearing down on him. He made the big time throws, our guy got happy feet in a clean pocket and bailed out.

We have won our last 16 games at home.

Stop acting like this game wasn’t shocking.

Also, it’s not like they just came out and lost a game of football. They got blown off the field in every aspect to a inferior team.
Which team was really the inferior team? I would argue the one that just got their butts handed to them was the inferior team.

I think this team went into the playoff game thinking they were unstoppable
I don’t think it was that, but more they were lulled into the home invincibility. I have no doubt the effort would have been different had they been a WC and had to go to Tampa. Just look at last year. They weren’t impressive in December last year, but went to Tampa and dominated them.

I created this thought on more than one occasion this season. And it still holds true.

We shouldn’t be as shocked or surprised. Is it embarrassing. It is for those like our ownership and everyone who bought into the hype.

Yes, I’m still frustrated and disappointed. I can still retain some hope we might finally overcome. The table certainly was set for a potential deeper run with a 2 Seed. But there were Red Flags waving many fans failed to accept.

We were not playing our best ball down the stretch losing to Buffalo and Miami, more playoff teams in which we couldn’t beat. And were gifted the Detroit game. Only a season finale at one of the worst teams who lost their final 8 games provided us another false sense of security everything was ok.

The Cowboys didn’t play their way into the 2 Seed or Division title. Instead won by default with defending NFC Champ in a major free fall collapse losing their final 5 of 6 games.

Perhaps if we’d stumbled into the 5th seed as was our destiny for most of the season we might not have been so full of ourselves. IDK but after securing 2nd seed we didn’t even seem to take the Packers serious who had been playing well second half of season to play their way into the playoffs.

There was more concern about who our next opponent would be or the scenarios in how we could get the Championship Game at home . Like we could just go thru the motions.

This team struggled all season against playoff caliber teams with lone exception of an Egirl team reeling. And an early Ram team which hadn’t found its stride. And if our offense got off to slow starts and our defense didn’t force turnovers both were relegated to pedestrian.

Id argue this team was again who we are, not what we wanted them to be . And we are good enough to run roughshod over most of the average to below average teams running up stats which present a perception we are much better. Yes, we have some talent. Enough to steamroll these lesser teams. But until they can rise up against better teams and on the bigger stages they are over hyped.
Great post and true. Despite some good things this year, there were obvious flaws surrounding this team. We were definitely not playing our best football in December. The only difference between us and the Eagles is that they failed one more game than us. I too observed some of the shortcomings of this team some weeks ago regarding penalties that killed our drives and extended the drives of our opponents; the lack of an interior run game and interior run defense; and an all-or-nothing defense. Go back and look at the games we lost and you will notice a bad trend - those were the games where we had none or very few sacks and turnovers. The irony is that not too long ago we were resigned to being the 5th seed. I wonder if that reality would have served us better, knowing that we would have to play lights out on the road to win. But given Sunday's performance - or rather lack thereof - I am not too sure we would have beaten the Bucs.

Yep and why I maintain this season we were over hyped or at least hyped more than normal. Based mostly on blowout wins to lesser teams which skewed our stats.

I was surprised they got spanked like they did. Not so surprised they lost, since it was the playoffs and what they do.

Perennially overrated and overhyped. What's new?

Jerry's an excellent marketer and promoter of his brand. Couple that with ESPN and the NFL all in business to make money, and the Cowboys will be forever overhyped and overrated, until the Cash Cow starts to dry up (and there's no sign of that so...)

If anyone paid attention during the season, they would have known the #2 seed was an illusion. We beat down the bottom dwellers, but smashed ourselves by most of the competitive teams we played. We backed into the playoffs losing 2 of our last four games and barely won against the Lions at home. We were over hyped, but mostly because we over hyped ourselves.
Agree for the most part.

Anyone paying attention could see this team was severely flawed: inconsistent run game; non-existent run defense; underperforming RT, et cetera.

The Packers did exactly what I thought all teams should do against us….run it down our throats.

Our defense is only a problem for opponents when we have a lead and they can pin their ears back. That’s about it.

There were detractors (usual suspects) who didn't buy the hype and wound up being right......again.
Of course but I saw some who usually don’t get caught up in it feeling this could be the year.

I certainly earlier in season was wanting to think this season might could different until our let down in December. Nothing wrong with retaining hope while being cautious not getting caught up in it without further evidence.

After the Egirl win it was beginning to look like we might could hang with upper echelon teams. Then December humbled us. And saw Egirls reeling which gifted us division.
