Safeties don't fall of at 31, though. We keep pretending that all positions have a shelf life that doesn't extend beyond a rookie contract, and it's complete nonsense.

I wanted Weddle more than most, but again, we went after him and made our best offer. It wasn't a bad offer, but another team was willing to overpay. We can't both complain about cap management and complain when they're not willing to blow their budget when it's convenient to do so.

Well, I guess we *can* do that, because everybody is. But it's silly. Whatever the philosophy is, they need to decide what it's going to be and then manage the team on that basis. I agree, it makes FA suck, but it's probably the better course in the long run.

This was a money decision. I don't want to hear about what's best for his kids and how important LDS was for him, both those things are better in Texas. As would be the adjustment from San Diego. Or the trips out to the new house with the family if he really cared about that.
Not that I blame him for going the money route, but who are we fooling here. Nobody wants to go to BAL on purpose.

BAL has demonstrated that they know what they're doing. I might choose them two, all things being equal. If they're unequal, and unequal because BAL is offering more money, I'm definitely choosing them.

The two clubs aren't all that different at this point. BAL has really good management, a good stable staff, and a good QB in place. Romo's uncertainty is a big deal in Dallas, but otherwise, we're a stable high profile franchise that needs S help and is up a creek at DE. I guess the other important factor is that we're the more likely of the two clubs to undergo a staff change in the next season or two, which is probably a factor for a guy in Weddle's position where you're just coming out of a situation where you didn't feel like the team was behind you the whole way.

It's a shame, though, because we really could have used him.

I read an article about this an apparently all of Weddle's friends said he should go to Dallas. I mean damn, they could've done a better job convincing him. But seriously, he really should've came here. Better city (for his family), better team, better fans, better fit. I'm not biased I promise.

C'mon, stash. The Raven's last Superbowl season was in 2012. That's a lifetime ago. They were basically the same team the Cowboys were last season, and for the same reasons. And it's nuts to say the shine is off the franchise. It's the most watched team in the league with the stadium and the facilities and the prime time games to prove it.

The issue here was the money. And that's ok. But let's not pretend it's something else.

You should read the article. It was a money issue and a culture issue. Apparently, Weddle doesn't see it the way most delusional fans do.

It was a money issue. The shot about it being professional and sensitive is nothing more than the Ravens immediately offered more money and Dallas wasn't willing to.

It came down to money, as it always does. Which I don't fault these guys for, get what you can when you can, but stop with all the ******** and just be upfront and honest about it.

Its comical the way guys like Weddle try and make it out to be about anything other than the Ravens offering more money.

As for the signing itself, I'm actually glad we didn't sign him to the numbers the Ravens did, that really wasn't my point, which was the positives expressed about one organization over another with all things being equal.
