It was in his house, not simply on his friend's person. His friend was charged, because he was there.

I totally understand the difference. I just look at them as legal technicalities. For example someone getting arrested for drug possession. There's misdemeanor drug possession and felony drug possesion. Legally, they're rated differently, but if it's still a drug case, why shouldn't I look at them both the same.

And at the raid on his house, would it matter to you if he was there and was the one arrested and charged for them? It doesn't to me, because the fact they were there suggests he was probably engaging in smoking some of the herbal essences himself.

And c'mon fuzzy, you know you've got strange views of relativism yourself.

Of course i do but you are equating someone who has done multiple violent crimes with someone that has done none. i didnt just say felonies i said violent felonies. Dont get me wrong i dont believe that Johnson is innocent by any means.

As for the shooting, the guy who killed him bumped into johnson and the two exchanged words. His 'bodyguard' at that point intervened and thats when the guy pulled out his piece and shot him. At no point did Johnson throw a punch or anything.

Actually from all the reading that Ive done about johnson lately its probably a good thing for him that Posey isnt around.

Posey is the one that had the weed, he was the one that would get the pitbulls all worked up, he was the one that fired the shot that got the house raided etc.

Tank: Friend gets shot.
PacMan: Friends shoot someone.

Tank: Has a gun in his car.
PacMan: Has drugs in his car.

Tank: Has gunsin his house.
Pac-Man: spits on and punches women.

Tank: Passes his toxicology report
Pac-Man: Fails his toxicology report.

But hey since they both went to jail they must be similar.

Great stuff!

:laugh2:

Furthermore, are Texas' gun laws really so lenient compared to other states'? Numerous states had 'right to carry' laws before Texas, and it was largely the Luby's incident that garnered support for such a law here.

texas has zero restrictions except for handguns and handgun restrictions are bypassable by a CCL. You of course cant take them into bars or schools or municipal buildings but everything else is fair game.

you can carry a shotgun down the street if you want to.

I shall attempt this soon. ;)

i beleive that there are laws on menacing and if someone says you pointed it at them that assault with a deadly weapon but according to the letter of the law you can do it.

If I prop it against my shoulder, barrel up, while whistling 'zippity do da zippity da' and smiling, I think I'll be fine!

Tank Johnson is coming to Texas, y’all, where gun laws are almost nonexistent and rifles are easier to obtain than water pistols. Which makes it a creepy landing spot for a troubled soul known to leave assault-style weapons and rounds of ammunition lying around the house, sometimes while his kids played.

Though he really deserves to sit for a long time and think about life, Tank has been signed by the Dallas Cowboys, who surely will pump him for information about the Bears as Sunday’s game approaches. I doubt whether Johnson can reveal much more than the obvious — Rex Grossman is a mental midget — but I have deeper doubts about how long he can avoid big trouble off the field. Remember, the Bears gave him second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth chances before finally dumping him in June, when he went drinking and driving and speeding in Arizona and came very close to exceeding the state’s legal limit for DUI.

Not enough time has passed to declare him a changed man. Nor is there any assurance that NFL top cop Roger Goodell, who must review Johnson’s case when his eight-game suspension expires in November, immediately will allow him to play. Knowing Goodell, he’ll responsibly inquire why Tank would drink and drive only weeks after leaving Cook County Jail. In Goodell’s world of law and order, that could spell a longer suspension.

So much for the vow of owner Jerry Jones to employ players of good character, recalling the sordid years when the Cowboys were known as ‘‘South America’s Team.’’ Though the Bears have injury issues on the defensive front, please realize that Halas Hall’s gain is Valley Ranch’s loss. I can’t wait until Tank gives the media down yonder his ‘‘I want to be the NFL Man of the Year’’ speech.

In his next life, maybe.
Just for the record, I'm very much in favor of signing Tank Johnson. Low-risk contract, high-reward potential! I've already invited him to the gun-range. Go Jerry!!!

Wow. Marriotti single-handedly demonstrates everything that is wrong with sports journalists. Is Rex Grossman a mediocre QB ? Yes. Mental midget ? Come on. The only guy that looks like a mental midget based on that column - is Marriotti.

I recognize that Johnson has made mistakes, but the thing in Arizona is pretty small potatoes. Speeding ? All those not guilty of that on a daily basis rasie your hands. Yeah, thought not. And while drinking and driving is wrong, there is a reason there is a legal limit. And being CLOSE to the limit is, actually 100% legal. I do find fault with people that have a need to moralize about things that are completely legal.

Marriotti is just a bitter little twerp who, while demonstrating a great amount of loyalty and love for his home town and it's teams, is blinded by his bitterness that Johnson would dare tarnish the reputation of his beloved Bears.

He should be home for a good long time to think about what he did ? You mean, like half the NFL season ? Done.

AS for Goodell just haphazzardly extending the suspension over the exact same event that he is currently suspended for ? Insanity. I'm sure it's in the NFL rules, but he has 7 more weeks to prepare for that meeting. Is there a single person on this planet that thinks Johnson won't be eminently prepared for it ? In Marriotti's most evil fantasies, yeah, his suspension would be extended. In the real world there is less than zero chance that happens.

I despise sensationalist douchebags like Marriotti.

I hate that people try to downplay all the criminal stuff he was involved in. Oh it was just this or it was just that. Dude's rap sheet rivals Pacman Jones...AND he served jail time.

But like you said, he's signed now, so we just wait and see.
"All the criminal stuff" ???

What ALL ? Guns. See also, 2nd Ammendment, US Constitution.

Now, I understand there are laws about gun ownership, registration, etc. I don't particularly agree with all of them, but they are the law of the land. He broke them and served his punishment, but I, frankly, am not going to condemn someone for exhibiting his right to bear arms, despite the laws that have been passed.

And there is a reason that charges like aggravated assault are dropped when the police get more aggressive than necessary when writing a frickin' parking ticket - because THEY were likely in the wrong as much, or more, than Johnson.

The dude's a knucklehead and he's got the rap sheet to prove it. Do you mean to tell me that the fight at the bar which got his boy killed two days after his house got rushed by SWAT on a drug warrant is nothing? Serving legit prison time on a probation violation is nothing?
Kinda like there was nothing to the no-knock raid that killed an elderly woman in Atlanta ?

SWAT raid on a drug warrant and they found, what, that his bodyguard had a bag of weed ?

Come on, now. You can give the benefit of the doubt to the police, but to proceed from an assumption that they are infallible and would never ever do anything wrong is naive at best. Kathryn Johnston wishes that were so.

that is what we get in the day and age of the blogger though. There is seemingly no code of conduct for most writers anymore.
WHAT?!?!?? In case you don't grasp this, Marriotti is not a blogger. The existence of blogs has nothing whatsoever to do with the fact that Jay Marriotti is a jerk. There have been jerks writing columns for as long as columns have existed. Maybe you recall a certain professional jerk named Skip Bayless. Run out of two major markets, do you think his slime was due to blogs ???

I don't share the optimism of most of you. Owens was past 30 when we signed him, and he still had his problems last year-yelling at the OC, wearing Tour De France uni while riding a stationary bike, ect. Say what you will, but these are all actions of an immature person.

Tank Johnson is only 25. He didn't learn his lesson after each of his other offenses, so why should he do a 180? Just days after getting into trouble and I'm sure being reprimanded, he goes out drinking & speeding. Does this sound like a man who's learned anything?

I'm sure Jerrah protected himself when he signed Johnson. I only hope the Cowboys aren't on ESPN one more time for something negative. It just gives the Patriots fans running ESPN more fodder to blow us out of the water.
