The refs didn't screw up.

If you are saying it's unlikely to happen I agree, but if you think it's not possible, you are wrong. Look it up.
I think we follow what you are saying, but you know darn well what the original post is talking about. I think there is value in the discussion, because maybe not everyone knows that the team that elects to kickoff is technically deferring the choice until the second half. But since everyone who posted above you chose "receive" I'm not sure who you thought you were educating.

The way I see it, don't play timid and try just to keep this one close. Take the ball and aggressively try to score every possession.

Can someone explain why we showed that trick play with Dez against the Lions when we didnt really need it? Seems like that would be something nice to have up our sleeve for this GB game.

Defering is weak. Take the ball and set the tone and let the defense be fired up with a lead when they step on the field. I'd never want my defense to begin the game on the field of a playoff game unless we had a historically great one and we don't.
Belichick always defers. If he's weak, I don't see the benefit of being strong.

I honestly don't think it matters much at all.

It should be like Bill Bates said during the Atlanta Super Bowl (vs Buffalo)....after winning the coin flip......"We want the ball!!!!"

You'd rather have your injury-depleted and suspension-depleted non-great defense on the field more in the second half?

Deferring is the smart thing to do. It's better to control the game in the second half than in the first half. You also put the opposing offense on the field when the crowd is fired up at the start of the game, instead of essentially telling your own fans to hush up right from the start.

This is a moot point, the Cowboys always take the ball first if they win the toss so I highly doubt we are going to change at this point. If we win the toss, we are sending the offense out first.

The title of this thread is "Cowboys win the toss, Receive or kick it."

Never elect to kickoff if you win the opening coin toss. Either elect to receive or defer your choice to 2nd half. At the start of the second half, the team that did not choose first (either because they deferred their choice or because they lost the toss) gets the first choice of options.

You have to take and score. The way the Packers are playing, Rodgers looks like he is SB determined.

I prefer to defer and get the ball to start the second half, but Jason Garrett does not seem to agree with me.

Just win. I really don't care how the Cowboys do it.
