I guess my line of thinking on this would be, if we're looking at Smith, you'ed have to think we're also looking agt McNeal. That's not a bad think IMO. I really like McNeal at WR.

figures.

Pitt has done a very good job of taking former college QB with athletic ability and turning them into very good WR. I don't know if Dallas will take Smith in the draft but for those who have seen him play they know the guy clearly is very athletic and very hard to bring down when running with the ball.

Exactly ! People act like this is some new thing . A. Randle El , H. Ward , and our own P. Crayton were all college QBs . Smith probably has as much natural talent as any of these guys , and would be a fine project for a 4th or 5th receiver . A 6th or 7th draft pick on him wouldn't hurt my feelings at all . The problem with Smith is that he doesn't want to be a WR and isn't good enough to play QB in the NFL .

As I said earlier if he is intent on being a QB then chances are he will go to the CFL where he would get his chance to play QB. During the Texas game aginst Missouri the annoncers were talking about this very subject and the fact that NFL scouts who were at the game were looking at him not as a QB but as a WR while scouts from the CFL were looking at him as QB

well, so much for just smarting off to be funny.

Nah , I got it ! Just commenting on Smith because he's a kid I have kind of followed this year . I always find these Matt Jones type incredible athletes intriguing .

I don't have the numbers but if I was to guess I would say high 4.4's or low 4.5's

According to NFL.com, he ran a 4.46 and a 4.52 at his Pro Day workouts, which they said was slightly faster than he ran at the combine... so you're right, on a good day he's probably in the 4.45-4.5 range... that's plenty fast enough for a WR that size...

Now, can he catch the ball??

It sounds strange bringing in potential UDFA's for workouts.

Perhaps, but most teams do it every year... example-- it was reported that the Commanders brought in 58 "local" players a few days ago, and when I scanned the list of those players, there weren't more than a half dozen that I'd ever seen on anybody's draft boards...

BTW, 58 is an awful lot of players to bring in to one of these workouts, but the Skins are gonna have to sign an unusual number of undrafted rookie free agents, with the few draft picks that they have...

We're not the only ones, and with good reason-- guys like Hines Ward and Antwan Randle El... on most teams, your quarterback is your best athlete, and even if he doesn't have NFL potential at his "natural" position, he has enough athletic ability to make it at WR, RB or S...

Other QB conversion projects this year include the Robinson kid from Penn State, and Marques Hagans from Virginia...

Another recent trend is to try to find basketball power forwards to play TE, LOL...

Brad smith could be another Randall EL and we could use another threat at WR

TO, Glenn, Crayton, and hopefully Smith.

He probably would be a good developmental guy, for down the road. His leadership qualities are a big question mark I guess from all that I read about him, which is big red flag, much like it should have been for Ryan Leaf.

But its about time Cowboys tried to find another developmental guy at QB, since either Romo is resigned this year or he leaves next year. I doubt Romo will re-sign for backup type of money, unless he doesn't find anyone paying him more than dallas and/or doesn't give him an opportunity to compete for starting job.

I have a hunch that the Cowboys might be thinking about making a run at either Matt Schaub or Chris Simms next offseason, both of whom are due to be unrestricted free agents...

I can bet they won't ( and I am not the betting type), only caveat being, if Romo/Henson prove not to be the guys to rely on to be starters in Future this TC. If not I am pretty sure both of them aren't on cowboys radar or possibility.

Chris Simms mainly because, unless he bombs this year, he will be long term QB of Bucs. Matt Schaub, is way overrated, plus he is not going anywhere unless Vick proves that he has stepped up his QBing ability this season. So both guys most likely will be signed long term by the teams, with Matt Schaub most likely guy who might be FA available or go to open market. But his demand will be high, and like I said, unless Romo or Henson don't do squat in this TC, Cowboys aren't going after high priced FA Qb.

If we're interested in a WR, why not draft a WR? Not some rehashed QB turned WR.

I don't get it.

You must have not got Patrick Crayton either.

Brad Smith
Height: 6-2 | Weight: 213 | 40-Time: 4.46

Official Bio

Strengths:
Outstanding natural athlete...A terror to defend and a threat to run at any time...Electric and a gamebreaker...Has a pretty good arm...Very instinctive runner...Incredibly productive...Smart and a very mature young man...A team leader with top intangibles...Experienced as a four-year starter...A gamer who comes up big in the clutch...Has some untapped upside at a different position.

Weaknesses:
Extremely inconsistent as a passer...Stares down his targets...Lacks timing and touch on his passes...Not very accurate...Struggles to read defenses and will have to adjust to a pro style offense...Does not have the type of elite speed you'd tend to think...Average size for a QB...Raw and a developmental prospect.

Notes:
One of the most prolific run / pass threats in college football history...A much better athlete than quarterback who will almost certainly have to change positions at the next level with wide receiver or running back as possibilities.

Leaf's biggest problem wasn't his lack of leadership, it was his immaturity, lack of work ethic, and short fuse. Lack of leadership didn't help, but there are QBs who have been moderately successful without being great leaders. He just thought he was the best thing going.
