"Martyball" and the passage of time

Good coach, above average head coach, top head coach, whatever. Great head coach? No. Not with a playoff record of 5-13 and no Lombardi's.

Yeah I would call him a good coach. I remember respecting him as a coach. I just can’t remember if he ran into bad luck in the playoffs or what. Kind of like that bills coach. Good coach who ran into nfc machines in the SB.

I noticed a lot of my fellow Zoners gleefully talking about how many of our problems will be solved because we have "Martyball" now. As someone who was around during "Martyball"it's interesting because back then Marty came to be known as basically a simpleton who was famous for soul crushing losses and who couldn't get over the top, e.g., he's the only coach in NFL history with 200 wins but a losing playoff record (and his playoff record STUNK). He was also on the losing end of iconic playoff losses, e.g., "The Drive", "The Fumble."
I'm curious what it is about Martyball that has people excited? Let me know Zoners.

Lived in denver during much of Marty’s coaching days, and certainly elway and thr broncos had his number in Cleveland and KC . but he had tough squads and playoff appearances regularly with a very limited budget especially at Cleveland . Hopefully his son has learned a few lessons.

I'm willing to let every person be there own man and not have to be a reflection of the father

However we do see examples otherwise such as Jerry and Stephen and Deion and Shadeur but only in like minded thinking....not ability

He is not likely to succeed….and that has little to do with his ability. No he didn’t achieve greatness as an OC, but could be a leader of men…just isn’t gonna be here.

He doesn’t have the horses and this FO has no idea how to provide them. Be honest, it’s about having the players.

Good for him personally. He will earn a HC salary, albeit likely at the lowest in the league (has that even been made public yet?) while literally no other team was after him.

His hire was about Jerry thinking there was no way MM would give him the middle finger and not wanting the QB hill he is going to die on to have to learn a new offense.

Teams get beat in the playoffs, and you need to look at who they lost to
to understand it.
In 97 he with KC, lost to Denver and Elway who then beat GB and farve in SB.

Sometimes the bad luck is who a team has to play in playoffs.
Poor Buffalo had the bad luck to wind up playing 3 great NFCE teams, Dallas twice, and before that
NYG with parcells and Bellichek, and the wash blanks. who were hot that year.

Marty had a lot of bad luck in playoffs, but that has nothing to do with his kid lol.

Thanks for the memories. People are so excited for something that became hated long ago. Should be fun season to watch especially with the tough schedule.

I can see it now. The Cowboys struggle to run against a bunch of good teams in the beginning of the season and than they play the Giants and people declare the problem fixed it just took time to learn the scheme.

Marty out side of Kosar and Rivers had journey man and washed up QBs to run his teams. Yeah he got young Brees and Rivers but his starting QB list is long. Yes his system was predictable but he also dealt with "average" QB talent through his career.
