Could be he was not 100% healed from that ankle, or just too much weight added in too short of a time negating his athleticism and quicks.

Needs to shed 10-15 lbs imo to get back to being a 3-4 LB instead of 4-3 DE.

Snowden is an all around LB, not a pure pass rusher.

Worth a PS stash.

Looks like the Bears decided to cut Charles Snowden this summer. I wonder if it was because of his bad ankle?

Agreed, but only after he passes a thorough medical checkup by the Cowboys doctors.

I'd sign him anyway.

Put him on IR if necessary.

If not for broken ankle, Snowden was a 3rd round pick.

Might need another year to be 100%.

Even Dak was not 100% after returning 1 year from broken ankle.

Bro, I'm always cautious when it comes to leg injuries, especially where major extremity parts connect. We have been burned over and over giving chances to guys with leg injuries.

Sign him to PS.

I was wondering why Snowden wasn't on a team. Thanks for getting me caught up on his situation. DQ could have a steal on his hands, and what better coach to work with a unique player like Snowden. Hope they sign him and he get healthy.

And DQ love players with length.

Well, Snowden has length for days.

And his IQ is as much of a strength as his athleticism, relentlessness and length imo.

Teams have a 16 man practice squad.....
Any of these guys that ended up signed would most likely go to the PS.

He is out doing try outs because he isn't agile enough to be an edge nor strong enough to be a down lineman.
But he could develop into a Dorance Armstrong type that can play a bit in-line 3T, 4I, 5 and use his length to bat balls downs.
Easy to add weight and strength as you age.

Bears made Snowden too heavy.

Snowden is not an every down pass rusher.

His strength is his all around ability as LB to play in space and run + tackle, gives me young LVE vibes.

He needs to get back down to 240 range (which will also benefit that injured ankle) and then he will be similar player to current Jayron Kearse, just at 6'6 - zone coverage, blitz, run to the ball.

LVE was an R1 selection while Snowden was undrafted. Very different athletes.
He fell all the way out of the draft because at 240 he is simply not strong enough to play Edge. He's very top heavy and lacks any real pass rush acumen or even balance much less bend.
His best bet IMO is to get to about 265-270 and play more down lineman. There is a lane for him there.
Or learn to run routes and catch passes.

Because 6'7" and 240 is a really outlier NFL body and you gotta be special with either bend or balance and strength when guys are going to out leverage you so much.
The Bears did try him at SAM but he couldn't play the position and has never been a top 60 guy on a roster.
He was PS last year then released this year and unattached even with teams all having 16 PS spots.

LVE is a much, much better natural athlete. Snowden lacks balance and coordination which are really mandatory at LB. Snowden does have good straight-line speed and great length so its how he can utilize those things without being a weakness that can be easily exploited.
He's built more like Randy Gregory than LVE (and he isn't in Kearse's universe). But without Gregory's bend and pass rush experience.
I'd be perfectly happy if Dallas signs him to the PS and gets a year of development under him.

PFN: draft profile.
Negatives: Has a thin build and struggles taking on blocks. Has a high-cut build, which will make it easy for opponents to take his legs out. Struggled with injury last season.

Analysis: Snowden was a three-down defender at the college level and consistently produced at Virginia. He projects as a 3-4 linebacker but must add bulk to his frame and get stronger, otherwise, he will struggle in the NFL.

Charles Snowden does look pretty good in his college highlights reel, but why is he available?

He is an edge rusher, not a LB.

He played as a stand-up DE on all the snaps in that video other than the last one when he bumped out in coverage against a TE aligned wide, but is was obvious from that formation that the offense was going to either run wide or throw a WR screen pass.

He looked really good in the highlight video.

Exactly!!!

Snowden does not have special bend when rushing passer.

He's actually better in coverage.

IMO Snowden would be best at ILB. He has high IQ to diagnose plays, great long arm technique to keep blockers off and huge tackling radius due to condor wingspan + relentless energy chasing ball carriers.

OVERALL

More of a project than most pass-rushers in this class, Charles Snowden is a fluid athlete who should be high on boards for 3-4 teams. Lacking the true foot speed of a speed-rusher around the edge, with unclear athleticism because he missed the testing portion of the offseason with an ankle injury, Snowden is something of a high-risk, high-reward edge defender prospect who, at the very least, drops into coverage much better than most edge defenders do coming out of college. He has some traits that translate to NFL success if he fully recovers from his broken ankle.

A pterodactyl on the defensive side of the football, Snowden started 35 consecutive games at outside linebacker in Virginia’s base 3-4 alignment before an injury ended his senior season. Listed at 6-foot-7 and 235 pounds, Snowden is a unique body type to project. What is even more unique is how well he moves for a player his size. While one might expect slow transitions from a high-legged athlete, Snowden shows out of the ordinary movement skills for a player of his stature. In space, he covers a lot of ground with astounding flexibility. He is a matchup eliminator offensively who can be used to erase big-time tight ends in the passing game in man coverage. While in zone, his length pays off big-time. Snowden is able to routinely close passing windows. He sets a firm edge in the run game, but lacks overall strength to consistently hold the point of attack. Despite being labeled as an edge in the 3-4 alignment, Snowden is not a natural fit as a pass rusher...

Snowden will need a creative defensive coordinator to maximize his talents. He projects as an intriguing mid-to-late-round project that will have NFL evaluators intrigued.
