Cowboys WR George Pickens when asked why he’s been so comfortable in Dallas: “I’d probably just say the type of coaches and the people around. When it’s a different vibe and environment then that’s mostly what you’re seeing out of me now. Definitely more light-hearted people.

“They kind of just ask questions first, see your answer, instead of just going with their own narrative. Definitely being around the guys, too. That’s definitely my No. 1 thing always just because when you can wake up in the morning and see them and we’re going through the same thing. Just being around the whole facility.”

On his maturity: “Definitely. The older you get, you definitely get mature.”

Shots fired at Steelers coaches.

It's also an interesting look at how different players respond to different coaching stimuli. You also have to consider what's at stake for Pickens in this current timing so you can't take this snapshot at face value only. But so far, so good and I hope we can find a way to keep him.

Shots fired at an aging coach thinking about retirement

Shots fired at offensive play callers who hate the modern passing game and run a power running from the 1990’s.

Shots fired at backup or has been level QBs.

Shots fired at an organization stealing years from his career.
Translate........he was frustrated, which led to some of the negative behavior he's trying to shake now. Sometimes, a player simply needs a change of scenery to get the best out his talent. I think that's what we are seeing now with Pickens.........

Okay, I'll stir the pot here a little. Do you think that perhaps Pickens is more comfortable with a camp cupcake kind of style like we've been rumored to have and a "buddy" coach like Schotty (also rumored) might fit his style better, but if anyone tried to clamp down on any out of step behavior, Pickens would act out again and be a problem/distraction?

Basically he likes Jerry atmosphere and not a stern atmosphere that holds players accountable for when they screw up.

He for sure is. Spoiled. I’m a fan but this isn’t a flex.

He's so comfortable because there's GREAT seats, toilet seats in dallas, ahhhhhhhhh!! Feels 12lbs lighter

It's really no different than the players that leave the Cowboys and then talk about how different the team culture is at the new place blah blah blah. They know where their paycheck is come from and are going to blow the team smoke regardless in most circumstances. It's why I ignore the nonsense when they leave and make it sound like the Cowboys were a pop warner team.

I wonder if George would have considered a naked Michael Irvin screaming about how we're about winning championships here as light hearted.

Every player is different ...........some players respond to hard coaching very well and some don't. Kinda like your kids........parenting method for one may liitle or no impact on another one. So you to try a different approach.

As for Pickens, keep in mind he spent his first 3 years playing with different QBs, none of whom were very good. I'm sure that too had something to do with his frustration coz his talent/career was being compromised by Tomlin's inability to find a top QB.

Good points about the QBs. The different coaching styles is the first place I want to go but there are also a lot of variables at play, especially since he isn't signed to a multiyear deal, which means he has to be at least a little measured in his approaches. I do hope we're able to keep him.

I don’t know about “comfortable”. I think the word you’re looking for is productive.

He had the most productive season of his career in Dallas.

No I meant comfortable. For production, his yards per catch average was the same here as it was in Pitt. And in 2023 his 18.1 ypc led the league with Kenny Pickett and Mason Rudolph throwing him the ball on 106 targets so there was no question he could produce. He just got a little more balls thrown his way here, and probably more accurately (65% catch to target rate with us vs. not breaking 50% in 3 combined years in Pitt).
