Cowboys WR George Pickens when asked why he's been so comfortable in Dallas - Machota

Word has it that some league insiders laughed at the Cowboys for trade 3rd round pick for him. LOL...... who's laughing now

Love his response regarding maturity......
The ones that laughed were probably trying to talk themselves into the trade backfiring.

When in reality they were scared to death of Pickens' potential having stability at QB and a WR like Lamb opposite him.

Shots fired at Steelers coaches.

It's also an interesting look at how different players respond to different coaching stimuli. You also have to consider what's at stake for Pickens in this current timing so you can't take this snapshot at face value only. But so far, so good and I hope we can find a way to keep him.
I think it's more the players than the coaches. Pickens and Lamb seem to be best buddies. Dak also appears to be the type of QB to make players feel appreciated.

I said he’s had great receivers….what was the issue?

Which is crazy because Aaron doesn’t have guys like Pickens at receiver. He’s had some great ones but they were all solid get to work early type guys.

Slid that word great in there but then called all those “great” receivers “solid get to work early type guys” and none as good as Pickens

It hurts to admit it’s but Adams is better than any receiver in Cowboy history with the exception of TO. He’s better than Pickens and hardly some lunch pail dude

Maybe you were thinking of Jennings and Cobb but just forgot about Adams.

Or maybe you ignored “great” and my point. I was comparing personalities. As in solid get to work early and stay after practice keep their head down type of guys. And actually I was thinking of Jordy Nelson and Davante great receivers. Jennings, Driver, Cobb were also great receivers.

You’re just argumentative and in defense mode and I get it but you can’t ignore “great receivers” and make up what you think I meant or said. That’s not how comprehension works.

Why does it hurt to admit Davante is better than anyone other than Adam’s? He’s regarded as one of the best receivers of his time lol.

You are cherry picking a single stat and minimizing the rest

Here is a mix of some advance metrics as well as some common sense .

30 more catches white maintaining elite YPC is extremely hard to do. It speaks to the volume of his explosive plays.

If a player gives you 30 plays at 15 ypc, that is fundamentally different in a season to season comparison.

Obviously touchdowns were a big change. He almost doubled TDs and in 2025 they were an average of 23 ypc. That’s explosion.

In 2025, he averaged three first downs per game that were over 15 yards each. 78% of his total catches resulted in a first down. He moved the chains

He also had 73 first downs compared to 41 in 2023. That’s true WR1 work

In 2023 he didn’t draw the top defenders. Diontae Johnson was their WR1. He got single coverage most of the year. That’s part of why he had such high YPC

When CeeDee Lamb went down, teams shifted 100% of their game plan to GP and he shook them so much that they continued to actively scheme against him.

In Pittsburgh he went to town because he was ignored. In Dallas he forced his dominance despite being a defensive focus.
Circling back to this. Good stats for Pickens with us that look great but that are almost certainly a product of what I stated from jump: he has a QB here that can get him the ball in the spots he needs to maximize his talents he already had at Pittsburgh. Nothing more remarkable, he simply has a better QB that makes him look better than with 'less than' QBs. Better balls = better YAC and probably more 1Ds and TDs you missed with other non-top QBs. You don't improve your catch percentage relative to targets by as much as he did because you learned how to catch better all of a sudden. Why do you think that stat improved dramatically? You didn't address it. Lamb's percentage has been constant for his career except the year he was forcefed 180+ targets in '23 and Tolbert was the same until it dipped last year. So Dak didn't suddenly get better at completions per target to WRs.

And as for you points on Dionte Johnson drawing the #1 DBs in 2023, when Johnson missed 4 games that season Pickens went 17-357 (21 ypc) as the WR1. He averaged 18.1 ypc on the season. So he did BETTER with Johnson off the field drawing the #1 DB than with Johnson on it. Think that's an aberration? Without CeeDee on the field last season, Pickens went 24-427 (17.8 ypc), averaging 15.4 ypc on the season overall. Again, BETTER against the #1 DB without the WR1 around. So you can't use the "he was ignored" line of reasoning because he was even better when he had to be "the guy" both here AND in Pittsburgh. Small sample sizes but he did it twice and was better by a few yards per catch each time.

So I'm not sure what you think you "nuked" about my argument especially given the numbers against your Johnson theory.

Cowboys WR George Pickens when asked why he’s been so comfortable in Dallas: “I’d probably just say the type of coaches and the people around. When it’s a different vibe and environment then that’s mostly what you’re seeing out of me now. Definitely more light-hearted people.

“They kind of just ask questions first, see your answer, instead of just going with their own narrative. Definitely being around the guys, too. That’s definitely my No. 1 thing always just because when you can wake up in the morning and see them and we’re going through the same thing. Just being around the whole facility.”

On his maturity: “Definitely. The older you get, you definitely get mature.”

So we like you and you like us so why don't we get a long term deal signed. Sounds good to me. Stay on board GP.

How many immature wr’s got ran out out of town with that Pittsburgh coaching staff? Maybe it’s something in the culture. Would it be hard to question the professionalism and maturity of staff whose coach stepped on the field to prevent the openers from scoring on a return td ?
