2nd Round presents a list of nice problems

We finish our chat with the National Football Post's Wes Bunting today, discussing interior offensive linemen and how some of the bigger players of interest for Dallas compare to the top players at their positions from last year's draft crop.

Cowboys Nation: I keep getting Danny Watkins questions. I think a lot of folks have their fingers crossed hoping he drops to 40. I'd count myself in that group. Anyway, is he a guard only, in your opinion, or can he play right tackle?

Wes Bunting: Honestly, I think he could play right tackle, but his better position is inside. I've heard a lot of teams like him so much they would love to try him at center. When I heard that I thought, "that's really intriguing" because center has more value than guard, and he's a smart guy. If you can get a guy who can give you Pro Bowl caliber play at guard, and some quality play at center and maybe some right tackle in a pinch, that's a heck of a player to have....

There's just no way I'd draft a 27 year old player in the 2nd round.

God I would be devastated. In baseball when a player reaches 27 he no longer considered a prospect.

The age of 27 is the approximate age of a journeyman who hasn't really been established at a top level of play yet. I would take close to or All Pro levels of play for a projected eight year length of time...period.

Taken from an article about the Senior Bowl in Dallas Cowboys Star Magazine:

'Take Boston College offensive tackle Anthony Castonzo and Wisconsin offensive tackle Gabe Carimi, both projected to be first-round draft choices. Each got work at guard, too, while Baylor offensive tackle Danny Watkins was told he'd be working solely at guard. Surprises to all three since guard was a foreign position to them.

"I played guard my freshman year in high school, so it's the first time I've played guard since then," Castonzo said. "A little different at this level than it was in high school.

"I was very surprised they put me at guard. I was like, well, OK, really? Whatever. It was just another thing to do."
