Cowboyszone Report Card...Roy Williams...GPA = 1.76

At this point, Roy Williams running long distances with the football when the game is on the line makes me cringe.

Roy followed up two D- seasons (that's being generous) with a C- performance.

I know he catches a lot of flack but I think he's gotten off relatively easy.

Look at it like this.

Imagine we gave up a 1st, 3rd, and a 7th in exchange for Terrell Owens and a 6th round pick.

Then think if he had performed as poorly as Roy and chirped as often as Roy has. Don't get me wrong Owens is an idiot diva and the whole 'secret meetings' crap really hurt our team's chemistry - but I can make a case that Roy has said equally as polarizing comments, that got brushed under the rug because A) it's common knowledge at this point he's mediocre B) no one really cares what Roy Williams says anymore.

I'm coachable, I'm the #1 receiver because I've done it everywhere else, Romo throws better passes to the other receivers, (silly first down dance), etc etc. He also denied Irvin's advice during camp about catching balls over the middle. He has finally made himself a servicable 4th receiving option 3 years into Galloway part deux.

And it sucks because I don't think their was a happier member of this board after we made the deal than me. He's been a huge very expensive disappointment, and any more time spent on the team from this point forward will merely be stunting the growth of our younger receivers.

Nobody in the NFL has canceled out more good plays over the past two seasons though. The guy is a magnet for untimely mistakes.

:hammer:

In my eyes he outperformed Miles this year. Sure Miles got 1k yds but with about half of the opportunities RW nearly matched Miles' td production.

B

Don't hate.

C. Inconsistant. IMO the guy STILL has the potential to be a great #1 or #2 WR in the NFL. He seems to be a hard worker and has solid physical abilities, but just doesn't seem to be reliable enough.

Here's the problem...

As a #2 receiver, I give him a B+...He may have done much better if Romo didn't get hurt, but for his overall play including blocking and receiving as a number 2 receiver, I think he did a pretty darn good job.

Now that would be the end of the discussion if it weren't for his contract. He's a #2 receiver being paid like a #1...A STRONG #1. In most fans' eyes, there's really nothing he can do to alleviate the perception of him being a complete waste short of becoming a #1, which just isn't going to happen.

I'm happy with Roy being our #2 receiver and would be elated with him as our #3 (which could happen this season if he remains on our team), but his contract is hugely inflated compared to his actual worth. I would love to see him restructure his contract and stay on this team, but I don't know how we will be able to afford, or justify keeping him if his contract remains the same.

I will be so glad when he and his loser attitude is off this team

I will be so glad when he not on this team any more

Williams had horrific practice habits in Detroit and probably has brought those to Dallas. Anyone who has watched him this year sees a terrible route runner who hates going over the middle.

Additionally, he has never taken responsibility for any shortcoming which, when you put it together, makes him a poor mans Braylon Edwards. Not the tag you want

Did you ever stop to think the problem is you, Roy? You’re lazy, you don’t run half your routes to completion, and the times you run the full route, it’s usually wrong

That UT piece of garbage has loser written all over him.

The smiling stiff got an F from me for sure.

I gave Roy a C he played a big role in leading the Cowboys to their first win last season having his best day as a Cowboy against the Texans.

He made several 3rd grabs in traffic last season and was on pace to having his most productive season as a Cowboy until Romo went down.

He caught 5 TD's in the 5 full games Romo played and didn't catch another TD the rest of the season with Kitna.

Grading players really shows how different some fans see things. We're seeing grades from A to F on the same player.

I'll give him a C. Even while his stats were better in the first half of the season, he simply still wasn't too much of a difference maker. His stats did not come in big situations.

He fell right back to vintage Roy Williams status for the second half of the season.
