Kirk has a better shot of winning SB on this team than Dak does….
I think the premise of a QB getting over the hump is a silly one. Their success is largely dependent on how the team plays. For instance, let's take Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers has been a starting QB for 15 years, yet he has only been to one Super Bowl. Does that mean all those other years that Rodgers didn't have the ability to "get over the hump"? Certainly not. He didn't have the team for it.
The hard thing with QBs is determining if the team is more of the issue or if the QB is the issue. Considering that we have not made it to an NFC Championship Game in 27 years, I'd say the team has generally been the issue. Sure, we've had some years with not much at the QB position, but also had some guys, including Dak, who has been among the top 10 QBs in the league. That should be good enough if the team is good enough.
I still think Matthew Stafford is probably the best recent example of this. Before Stafford went to LA, Cowherd could have substituted his name in his statement either in place of Dak's or in place of Cousins'. Stafford was a good numbers QB, often top 10 in the league, but Detroit was 0-3 in the playoffs. He was on some truly abysmal teams there that had some talent but not enough. Stafford should be a cautionary tale against anyone saying that a top-10 QB can't get over the hump.
