Twitter: Cowherd: Mike McCarthy is a better coach than you think

One of the hosts on NFL network said today that “everyone and their mother” thought Mike was done in Dallas, but not anymore with the win over TB.

Seriously? After back to back 12 win seasons, everyone thought he was done?

I do find it ironic how many people want Mike fired and are willing to trade draft picks to get Sean Payton, despite their nearly identical coaching records.

I actually don't know that. I wonder what McCarthy would have done if he had Tom Brady all those years. He certainly would have won a lot more and he's already on equal footing with the best of those that didn't have Brady.

Belichick got fired in Cleveland, was just okay in New England until Brady and now we see what he's like without him.
No argument from me that a coach and elite QB pairing has proven franchise success over an extended period of time. You could cite all the QB names/coach duos to back it up.
But for me and this guy, I need more proof of actual individual input instead of management over Quinn, Moore and Fassel to convince me he is a top game day difference maker.

Difference of opinion on his coaching ability.
No big deal.

Parcells' overall win percentage is skewed. He took over reclamation projects and bolted shortly after he turned them around. He's the best coach of that lot.

I've been preaching this about McCarthy since he's been here. The man is the Rodney Dangerfield of Head Coaches. No respect at all.

It's just interesting hearing this from Cowherd. Who absolutely crapped on McCarthy when the Cowboys hired him.
I seem to recall Cowherd saying Dallas screwed up and should have hired Ron Rivera at the time.

I will say one thing. Everyone wants to say that the only reason he has a SB ring is because of AR. He's the only coach to win one with AR. Maybe the problem with Rodgers has to do with him and not his coaches.

Folks seem to believe Cowherd just bashes the Cowboys, but he doesn't always. He trashes Aaron Rodgers daily, but that's another matter.

Here he compares Mike's resume' to coaches who tend to be held in higher regard.

I will always wonder how much Jerry meddles behind the scenes, and how much it affects the HC's ability to do his job.

He went on to say he didn't include Sean Payton because he works with him. Payton is on his show every Monday during football season.
Payton is probably the most identical resume to McCarthy including having an elite QB box checked.

We've been telling y'all this since we hired him. Y'all got a little stupid in ostracizing the guy prematurely, and now it's in your heads.

Yep. mike McCarthy is one of the best head coaches in the league.

The odds of hiring somebody better than him on the next go around are pretty slim. So the FO would be wise to keep him as long as his heart is in it.

I believe it was Aikman that made this comment and it made sense at the time. Mike McCarthy was not hired by Booger to have a winning record, win wild card games or anything other than deliver him a 4th ring.

We have a lot of SB of bust fans here, why not have an owner that has arrived at that same point?

Isn't that what the owner of TB did when he fired Dungy and traded for Gruden? Dungy had a good record and had won some playoff games but had not delivered. Reid was really liked by Lurie but he had failed to deliver.

The turnover rate of HC's is a joke in the NFL, these 5 are the lowest it has been in 10 years and it's been as high as 9 in one season. I think they realize this guy isn't going to do it so they'll pay him off and bring in the next one. They go into it knowing the odds are he will not live out his contract. They even extend them and fire them the next year like AZ just did.

Kronke agreed to sell out and get his ring and the fallout from that has his young HC needing to take some time off. The pressure to deliver in the NFL is unrelenting and the hours long and arduous and can age these guys before our eyes.

I like McC and my heart went out to him when he had to handle questions from the media when Booger played that Payton game with him. He was a worm on a hot hook and as uncomfortable as I have ever seen any coach.

I can say he is easily the most underappreciated 12 win back-to-back HC I have ever seen but this comes back to what Aikman said and I think he's onto something there. The Sands of the Booger Hourglass are flowing faster.

Interesting segment.

Goes to show how perceptions establish “reality” in the mainstream regardless of whether facts or hard data support them

That's a very interesting video & statistics. Thanks for posting that. He's probably better than I give him credit for. I do think the roster, and especially the QB can make a coach. Belichick looked like a genius with Brady, but not so much after he left. Without Rodgers as his QB in Green Bay, I suspect MM's record looks a lot different.

He said they settled for McCarthy. Like hitting a single in baseball. Then when they were doing Hard Knocks, he mocked the way he talked to his team and talked about how different the top head coaches were in comparison.

This was a good segment and reinforces that McCarthy is a pretty good coach. When he was hired it wasn't the hot upcoming coordinator that got a lot of people excited, but he had the best resume since Parcells.

Works with him? He spent half the show today repeatedly telling listeners that he spent 5 hours doing shots of tequila and talking football with Payton in Manhatten Beach last night. It sounded more like fanboyism.

He's worked wonders with this team to get to 12-5. Dallas was missing several essential starters for several weeks!

I'd like to see another team do the same.

You could pull video of nearly any talking head with a sports show
trashing a team, player, coach, etc. and put a video of the
same clown contradicting what the first video showed.

It's really no different than a high school debate class.
There's a perfect example of this with Skip Bayless loving/hating
on Aaron Rodgers. Look it up.

You peeps that hang on the words of these clowns must be
in some kind of trance... lol

Yeah, I'm hanging on his words because I watch/listen to the show.

The people who hang on the words of talking heads are the ones who get angry whenever one of them says something they don't like. I don't. It's just someone's opinion.

Cowherd has great guests every week - Jimmy was on today. He also does a weekly segment pointing out everything he got wrong the week before. Who else does that?
