Between Fletcher Cox and Mark Barron, who do you think the Cowboys would select?

I think if Cox is on the board and they cannot find a trade down partner, they'll take him.

If the Cowboys can find a trade down partner, I think they'll try and trade down a few spots, pick up an extra 2nd or 3rd, and take Barron.

What do you guys think will happen?

I dont think they will trade down with Cox or Barron available @14.

I dont think either guy will be there if we trade down. out of those 2 i would rather have Cox.

Philthy or the Jets will take Barron if we dont

There's a very good chance Barron will be on the board at #14.

Cox is a different story IMO. Carolina is the one team I'd be worried about with taking Cox. If he gets past Carolina, he'll fall to us.

I think it's very telling that the Cowboys are only bringing in TWO defensive linemen for private workouts leading upto the draft. Cox and Chase Baker, who's not even ranked.

I'm leaning towards Cox.

I think it's also telling that Dallas is bringing in Barron AND Harrison Smith.

That's a tough choice. I'd flip a coin. If you held a gun to my head, I'd probably pick Barron because the position is a bigger need.

It's close.. We need a DE just as much as we need a safety

Yeah, DE and S are pretty close in terms of being major needs. At least we brought in Pool, but he's just a journeyman. At least we have a veteran who's familiar with Ryan's scheme. And we just can't depend on Kenyon Coleman to do anything next year. He has a decent base salary this year, so if we could draft Cox, Coleman would immediately become expendable.

If Poe or Brockers is there they'll come here first.

Yep. Our DEs stink more than our safeties and we've already partially addressed the secondary. I think Barron might be a better player, though.

I don't agree. I think Hatcher is a very good DE and the others are good enough against the run to keep in place. We also have the flexibility to kick Ratliff out to DE.

But other than Pool, who isn't a long term answer, we don't have anyone that warrants being a starter in the NFL at safety.

odd, most people would say Pool is the weaker of our 2 safeties

Take Gilmour over any other DB at 14.

Lest we forget Jerry signed Senseball and Scandrick then paid big for Carr along with 1st round money in Jenkins, it looks like front 7.

I disagree about that one.

Hatcher is an above average player - he is just a bit fragile. Lissemore is an emerging player and I see him starting next year and putting up 5 sacks. Behind those two we have Spears who is always underrated on this board but an excellent player against the run and a load of a player to hold back in the pass rush. After that there is a drop off and I don't see Coleman back next year. They had Geathers on the roster last year and I still have hopes for him - he is still trying to figure the game out but I see a bit of Lett in him and I hope he puts it all together next year. So in the end I see two good starters, 1 good sub and 1 prospect. It is far from great but the cupboard isn't as bare as some would have you think. I could see us taking a player in the first four rounds here but we don't need to reach and we don't need a starter.

At safety we have Sensabaugh who is okay. Pool who is usually injured. After that we have Church who is really a nickel ILB and ST player and McCray who is a ST player. The safety position is pretty empty right now and we should have done more to shore it up in FA because the draft is very weak after Barron and Harrison Smith. We have our starters but if either of them go down we are in a lot of trouble.

He's heads and shoulders above anyone else we have.

I like Fletcher Cox much more than Brockers. Brockers is all potential.

Cox is all motor. Reminds me of Glover or Rat.

Barron has grown on me big time but I think the Ed Reed comparison is a a bit of a stretch. Ed Reed had 20+ picks at Miami vs Barron's 12 at Bama. Reed much more deep center fielder vs Barron more in the box.

The Ed Reed comp is a bit of a stretch but Barron is far more than just an in the box safety that some claim.

I would be happy with one of DeCastro, Cox or Barron.

i would take Barron b/c he looks like a guy who could actually be a safety for us long term

i'm sick and tired of changing out our safeties every 1-2 years with journeymen

that and it seems like the D-line is a pretty deep class this year so there could be some options later

also, with all the talk about our current lineup and such let's not forget about Lissemore. guy looked like a player when he got in the games last year, reminded me of how Ratliff was when he was just coming on. so i think he has a chance to come in at DE

i guess my point is that if we have a chance to finally solidify the safety position i would jump on that

Barron. I think people are mistaken thinking we can comfortably trade down and still get him. He's going to come off the board more than likely somewhere in teens. So if he's your guy, stay put and take him. No need to get cute..
