Crayton confirms that Austin will start

I'm not sure which I understand less:

1. Our coaching staff for not telling Crayton he isn't starting.

Or

2. Crayton thinking he still deserves to be the starter.

I have to be honest here. I feel for Crayton if he does.

Because prior to the KC game, what had Miles done to that point to deserve being a starter?

Don't get me wrong, I LOVED what Miles did in that game. But Miles has to go out and make some of those big catches he dropped prior to some of those catch and runs he made later in the game. And he has to do it consistently.

Yeah, but remember Parcells basically giving Dat's job to Bradie James before he'd earned it?

If a guy with better potential (in the opinion of the coach) is behind you, you better play flawlessly to not lose your job. And Crayton wasn't flawless last week.

I mean, nobody works harder than Sam Hurd, but he's never going to be more than what he is because he's just not that talented physically.

It does stink in a way, but it's just the way it is.

Minor correction, I believe it was Coakley's job that was given to Bradie. But I do get what your saying.

Well hopefully, Miles plays consistently. That's my only concern. I don't like disappearing acts and then sunshine against dog crap teams. If they're making you the man, then you need to make sure you're worth being the man.

I know, I was about ready to cut Miles earlier in the game when he dropped those two TD passes.

I think we just needed someone with big play potential, especially with Felix possibly still out.

That's a good point...

and like you, I was done w/Miles after those two drops as well. Tough catches, but if it hits your hand, it should be caught. Still burns me up even tho the won. :p:

Parcells WANTED to replace Dat with James, but couldn't. Dat constantly produced and proved he deserved to start. Parcells finally traded Coakley to get James on the field. Parcells loves tall guys on defense. A short guy must have stolen his girl once. :D

Seriously, Parcells was completely fascinated with size. Jimmy was just as obsessed, but with speed. And Belichick emphasizes football IQ/versatility.

It doesn't surprise me that no one sat him down and explained he was being demoted. I really dislike our coaching situation these days.

No kidding. They are all ****ing gutless. Seeing that this is an offensive issue, I would think Red should have been the guy talking to him.

Together, Wade and Garrett might have the collective spine of a small rodent.

Give me a break. Did you say this about Parcells, too?

And Wade said Crayton was told Miles would start in the meetings. He wasn't told he wouldn't start this game because they don't know yet if Roy would start with the bad ribs.
It's as certain as the sun rising. You rush to defend every bush league move the Cowboys make.

I remember thinking that the Miles Austin experiment needed to end after those drops. I felt a bit silly later.:

How hard is it to call Crayton into your office before meetings, and let him know that we are going to start Austin, but Crayton will still see tons of playing time?

Is that difficult? If for any other reason than to show other players that you have enough respect for the players that you will keep them informed of their status anytime it changes.

I don't blame the players if they don't respect this coaching staff, they don't deserve respect.

And for the record, I don't care for Crayton personally, so I have ZERO agenda here.

I don't think Crayton really has any questions regarding what is going on. He can read the writing on the wall.

Problem is, he shouldn't have to read the writing on the wall. I think he just wants someone on the staff to nut up and tell him.

if he had a problem with it......he should have gone down the hall and spoke with them personally, not on the radio......crayton should be deactivated this sunday for that stunt! God I can't stand him

I really don't get why people are bashing Wade for this one or feeling Crayton is owed some sort of explanation and shoulder-crying session.

In a game the week before, two players fighting for the same position have completely opposite games. One sets records, the other turns the ball over. Next week in practice - "Miles, you're in." What else is there to say? "Oh, Patrick, we still love you, we think you can still be a big part of the offense, etc, etc..." Maybe that would have been nice for Crayton but a coaching staff is certainly under no obligation to explain themselves to players over tea and biscuits. Crayton knew what was up - he got beat for the position. Now he just wants something to complain about - and Grandpa Wade is an easy/dumb target.

Do you think this happens on any well run team? That's all I'm asking.

Yeah, I do. I don't think Parcells (or Sparano) would have even looked at Crayton all last week, much less sat him down and had a chit-chat explaining why the guy who went for 250 and 2 is going to be starting over the guy with a bad case of the fumbles.

No doubt in my mind Parcells would've at least said it in a press conference that he was going with a different player.

I agree.

Maybe it would have been a nice thing to do, but not necessary or owed him.

If PC wants his position back, go get it back.

How is that any better or different? I feel like that is almost worse or more humiliating - which would be exactly something Parcells would do, lol. Not say anything to Crayton all week, and then announce to the media that Austin is the starter, catching Crayton completely by surprise.

If Parcells had done that, we laugh at the mind games.

We have a different standard for judging things that Wade does. Maybe justifiably so, because he's a buffoon - but in this instance I don't think he deserves any criticism. He made a decision - the RIGHT decision - and like WV said, if Crayton is upset about it, he can fight to get his job back. Right now, he got beat. And his pride hurts, and he's upset, so he's dropping some "The staff ain't treating me right" nuggets to the media because "The Staff" makes a ridiculously easy target.

No big deal.
