From Pro Football Focus' Third Quarter Stock Report:
Stock Up: Mackenzy Bernadeu (+9.1, Q3 2013; -1.2, Q2 2013)

Only three games for the Cowboys this month but strong performances in each of them for Bernadeu whose dreadful season debut against the Giants is a long way in the past now. His +5.3 run block grade this month was topped by only Evan Mathis (+8.4) and Rodger Saffold (+6.4) but Bernadeu also played well in pass protection surrendering only three pressures (1 Sk, 1 Ht, 1 Hu).

I saw him on several plays looking like he was a beast that absolutely belonged in there.

Leary too. I suspect hes the meanest guy on the line.

He's always been strong enough. Way more than enough. He has good hands. His feet......... Always said he could look All Pro one play then look....well not a good word for it actually. Maybe partially frozen or daydreaming???

His problem has always been consistency. He will play well for a few games then absolutely stink up the place. That is why he really only good as a backup.

people don't like to hear it but with ol from tiny schools (Bentley only has one alum in the NFL right now), it can take a while. Not having the benefit of facing top competition for 3-4 years in college really is a huge issue that puts small college guys way behind -- obviously there are exceptions (Veldheer) -- but most of these guys need a long while to get ready. Bernie's size and strength kept him in the league and now we are seeing some encouraging play. Maybe he doesn't end up being the answer at G, but he's making a case to stay on the roster next year.

Yes, Bernadeau is finally healthy. He was never healthy last season and had some type of injury coming out of training camp this season. Also, it helps that he has a quality Center next to him now.

I agree that Leary is the most aggressive of the 5. He makes some mistakes, but he has really good physical ability.

Speaking of mean, I was really disappointed that Parnell couldn't challenge Free in the preseason due to an injury. He definitely plays with an aggressive, play-through-the-whistle attitude and is much stronger than Doug Free. I really believe that if Parnell could start about 8 games, that he would become a much better player than Free. Despite a noticeable limp, Parnell played the preseason game against the Bengals and physically dominated their defenders on many plays. That included their 2nd round DE and Pro Bowl DT Geno Atkins.

Back to Guard, they must add another one in the off-season. They have zero depth. The primary interior backup is Costa and he is really just a Center.

The wildcard is the fact that OT Weems has practiced at Guard to some extent. He is a big, powerful and athletic player. His play in the preseason reminded my of Leary from the 2012 preseason. You could see that he has NFL type physical ability (something that David Arkin never showed) but was raw from a technique/awareness perspective. Practice squad player Ray Dominguez is big (6-4, 328) but has borderline athleticism. He would probably be wise to come to camp next season closer to 320 than 330.

It appears that the late-1st and 2nd round will be loaded at Guard in the 2014 draft.

Bern was horrible vs the Giants, but has turned his season around.

If he ends the season on a high-note, that would be a terrific bonus for the team heading into the offseason.

Check out Leary continuing to block his guy well after Murray is into the endzone.

Check out Fred driving his man as well -- looks like he just knocked him off balance immediately and was so effective that Bern just sort of got caught in the wash

MAN, I saw Saffold play numerous times for IU and thought he was a can't miss prospect: don't know how good his pass blocking is, but I wanted this guy to play in Big D'....maybe someday.

I think Saffold is a free agent after the season.

And it's also why the staff is so intrigued by him. His All Pro plays not his Ah Shoot plays. If he can develop his feet, motivation and recognition then he will be great. If he continues to be too inconsistent then he'll either play elsewhere or not at all.

Are we talking about Bernardeau or Leary here?

Both. They are similar guys in talent. Strong guys who move marginally and have trouble with quick twitch guys. Bernie has a tad more upside but is more inconsistent than Leary. Both can maul and between them, once Waters, and Fred you are seeing some inside push which is actually hard to do in todays NFL.
