Before the rule changes in 1979 you could chuck and push a receiver all the way through their route. You couldn't grab and hang on and you couldn't tackle them before the ball arrived. A lot of today's players have no idea how easy they have it.

well going public helps, cam will get more calls now if he is roughed, after he called out the refs.
Squeaky wheel and all that.

I got a hunting/drinking/horses-mules buddy who's locker was right next to Ed Hochuli's when they both played college ball at ASU,,, I think that's pretty cool.

Refs play favorites. After when they took that catch away from Bryant I know they can make or break whoever they want to win.

I don't know if they intentionally do it. But they are absolutely ruining the game.

Is it too much for the multi Billion dollar NFL to have professional full time refs?

People can criticize NBA refs but, they are sooo much better than NFL and NCAA refs. MLB are pros too and I don't watch it as much but, don't hear as much controversy regarding them.

The rules are written with ambiguity to allow the NFL to dictate outcomes. Each game, there are literally 3 entities at play. Both teams and the refs. After the Bryant debacle, I'm convinced the NFL plays a strong role in shaping outcomes. There is no other explanation.

Buffalo 11 penalties 115 yards
Seattle 10 penalties 75 yards

Not sure I see the issue? I'll give you the blunder on the Sherman offsides field goal mess, but aside from that I didn't see much favoritism.

I don't know about favoritism, but the officiating was bad. Making a bad judgement like not calling a 15-yarder of some type when Sherman rolled into Tucker's knees is one thing. Holding the ball until there's five seconds on the play clock and calling delay of game because the offense couldn't get the play off is inexplicable.

It's why I never understood the complaints of Jim Harbaugh complaining to the referees. It would get his QB some roughing the passer calls why Romo would continue to get cheap shotted and never get a roughing the passer penalty in the 4th quarter which is astounding.

I dont watch anyone but Cowboys games anymore, so I cant say I have noticed the call, I hear the crying about it though, but teams have been crying about it for years, so I haven't paid much attention to it. I have noticed a few questionable call in Cowboy games, but we have been able to overcome them for the most part. Like someone above said, if you take care of business, the flags are usually not pertenant to the outcome of the game.Refs are going to ref. Their human and will make mistakes. Play good football and hopefully it will not matter.

This, Car.

I mentioned in the Monday GDT, these refs hold full-time day jobs (CEOs, private school principals, attorneys, to name a few) and then have to jettisone to the game after their work week is over. They make ~$200k a year ref'ing. Gooddell needs to double that wage and implement them full time, even during the offseason, so that they get constant training. Doing this will result in a crisper officiating crew, and allow more checks and balances (i.e. fines and firings for ineptitude).

Mike Pereira spoke on this recently on The Herd, but I largely brushed it off as him being a talking head for the League and officials.

Still, I completely agree, Car. The NFL makes billions, they can afford full-time refs.

I mentioned this before also. The refs are refs only as part-time. Yet they get paid a six figure income from the NFL. They have their other full-time jobs such as a teacher, attorney, etc. They aren't inclined to make the right calls because there isn't any consequences at all.

The NFL needs to fire all the refs and hire new ones and double their salaries. They need to be full-time and work on their crafts even during the off season.

It would be nice as well if the refs didn't have affinity towards certain teams. The bias oozes out of some of these guys.
