Getting ready for the mockery and "here we go again"....

The day after the ugly, sadden news of Mr. Prescott suffering a horrible / nasty ankle injury. It was hard to see him sitting on the field, holding his leg and pointing at his ankle. Was nice to see both Coach McCarthy and Garrett come onto the field and show reasons of concern/caring. Camera shot at the owner box saw Stephen Jones emotional reaction....

So now what? Some fans are now saying The Jones need to support Mr. Prescott. Depending on what side of the field you sit: You want Dak to get paid. #4 signed the franchise tag for one season, betting on himself to rack in a large, long-term deal like Russell Wilson. Meanwhile the other side, know the salary cap is going to go down in 2021, will be hard to handle the salary cap next season.

The Culture in Dallas has been mediocre AT BEST for three (3) decades. Hell, this franchise has a .500 (ish) record since the opening of AT&T Stadium. So what is this so-called "cultural" problem? People will have their own definition so I'll throw mine out. Here comes the "here we go again"

Being famous/popular has been MORE important--in Dallas-- than winning for 3 decades. Jerry is the most famous owner / GM that has been riding on the 90s success for far too long. Loves his post game interviews, fans screaming at him when he enters the field for pre-game. Majority of fans could name a large amount of owners name but vast majority know who owns the Dallas Cowboys.
Winning is more important to the Patriots than signing players to selling jerseys. They will trade away players a year early, so to get draft value to keep youth cycling through the franchise and avoiding salary cap situations. Patriots don't hit on all their drafts picks but with so many to use, they hit more than they don't.

Dak is a warrior QB and to see him miss games, for the 1st time, is hard to see. He bet on himself for a long-term deal, while rejecting a smaller long-term deal didn't work out. Dak could very well miss the entire 2021 season as Alex Smith missed a few season after his devastating injury.

As I said prior, the 2021 salary will be lower, which will force several franchise to make many tough choices like letting go several of their own HIGH priced QBs. Matt Ryan, Drew Brees, Aaron Rogers, Matthew Stafford, Philip Rivers, to name a few could be seeking new locations AT FAIR LESSER salaries, which then could allow teams to add depth.

But going back to the main topic: The Culture. Three decades of the same. Nothing is really going to change until the GM is change and we ALL know that isn't going to happen until that GM visits Al Davis.
Winning (playing football) has be be MORE important than popularity/famous/getting paid in Dallas. The Culture with Dallas has been upside down for the 3 decade drought and the Cowboys will NEVER see a NFC Title game. let alone a Superbowl until the change happens.
So lets the mockery dams loose....... attack away

Agreed that the culture and atmosphere is not conducive to winning.

Jerry is the clear boss and that undermines the staff from commanding respect. He wants to be buddies w the players and that doesnt work.

I could go on and on for a while on all that....

Jerry isn't letting Dak go. Really wish people would stop.

His injury isnt comparable to Smith's. He had some sort of infection and the limb was in jeopardy.

Dak will be on the field by June.

Dak didn't reject a "smaller" long-term deal. He rejected a longer deal because he wanted a shorter one. This was widely reported.

Alex Smith had 17 surgeries. His life was in danger due to infection and he almost lost his leg. Dak had one surgery and went home the next day.

It should also be noted that MM did not build that winning culture in GB. That was Mike Holmgren. MM just inherited it and did well. But what we need is a total tear down/ makeover. He's not the guy. We need someone like a Parcels to come in here and just turn the whole scene upside down.

All too often the Jones family screws the pooch on these contracts. Keeping players because they like them over actual production.

I like Dak, but don't think he deserves the money he demands. The injury, combined with Dalton having good stats in this offense the rest of the season, could keep the Jones family from killing the Cowboys cap.

Well, one can dream...:starspin::starspin:

The problem with the Cowboys is you don’t have to be good to be famous. That is the product Jerry sells. We are consistently an average to an above average team. We are perfect for the NFL. Just good enough to keep all of us interested and supporting the club through eyeballs watching the game but never good enough to win it all (which is what would really annoy the other 31 franchises).

Think about the clubs like the Ravens and the 49ers. They have been laughable at times in the last 25 years but they’ve also been to two super bowls each. Jerry will never tear things down to build them up again because he just needs a product good enough to keep us interested.

I'm sure Dak wanted to make some kind of deal. Cowboys offered him a fair deal and Dak wants to be a Cowboys for life.

He sure had 2nd thoughts though. He was trying to make a deal himself at the very end but time ran out.

This is certainly the fault of his agent. His agent botched this by looking out for more of himself rather than for the players. As noted, none of that agent's players signed a contract.

Al Davis Jr just hired our first bonafide HC since the Tuna so I have to give Big Mike at least 1 full season to turn the culture around.

If MM doesn't immediately & adequately address our issues at 1T and linebacker then he isn't that guy and the puppet strings need to be cut.

As soon as you exaggerate you lose credibility. The doctors have already said that Prescott should be good to go in about 6 months. Alex Smith missed all that time because he had to have 17 surgeries to correct his injury. Not anywhere close to the same thing. You exaggerated to make your view mean more than it does. Also since Prescott's injury both Jerry and Stephen have said that Prescott is still their QB for the future.

The owners have already started discussing how to handle the cap next year and don't want to see teams having to release their star players because of no preseason games this year and having to compensate the networks losses next year which will lower next years cap. They've thought of seeing if they can compensate over the next two seasons so the cap just drop slightly both years. Several teams right now have more than the 5% carry over limit and the owners had said that maybe this off season not to enforce the 5% limit so teams will have more money for next year. Right now the Cowboys are well over the 5% limit.

There will be some belt tightening but not as bad as you and others are trying to paint it. The league knows that forcing teams to put their QB's out there isn't good for the league. BTW, most people feel Brees was planning to retire after this season anyways so using him was again an exaggeration. The saints are on MNF every year but tonight they made a point that this was in all likelihood Brees last time on MNF.

MM is not capable of changing the culture in Dallas. You are certainly right about that. I don’t think there is a coach in the league that could overcome the players and the Jones family. Many former players and coaches have mentioned that the culture is more like a country club instead a pro football team.

There are 3 coaches currently coaching who could turn this thing around : Belechek, Pete Carrol, and Sean Payton. There some younger coaches but its got to be someone the Jones respect enough to hand over roster control. I think Payton is the most realistic. but coaches don't count against the cap so if Jerry finally saw the light, he could make a big play for one of these guys.

It has always been about team culture and it always will be. It starts from the top. The owners ego is too large he has 3 SB’s , Hof, biggest name owner in the league.
He will never do what is right for the organization. He is about selling to the public. This whole organization needs to be flushed and start from scratch. If we had a competent owner like one of these tech guys we would be competing for a SB in 3 years. I wish on of these tech guys would throw their money at Jerry, could he turn down 8 billion from Bezos?

As much as us fans don’t want to hear this Jerry does not care about a SB win. If he did he would have spent the most money on coaches and front office folks. Money is no object for this franchise. I would pay McVay 20 million a year and it would be worth it. How much do CEO’s of a 5 billion dollar company make?
In 1994 Jerry said 500 coaches could take that team to a SB. He foolishly still believes that.
Jerry only cares about the sizzle, he does not want to be on the back page. He fears 3-13 more than he cares about 13-3 and a SB. To him his SB win in 1995 has cemented that he can win without Jimmy.
If you can’t be honest with yourself who can you be honest with.
We will never win a SB for the next 100 years until this ownership group comes to its senses. Admit your mistake 25 years later it’s not too late. Give up the GM title.
I would go and follow the SF model. Get the brightest young coach and a great personnel GM. Bottom out if you have to, it will only take a couple of years.
Trade Gallup to the chiefs, trade Cooper if possible, move on from Dak. We should have 80 million plus in cap room. Go 2-14 this year. Wins are inconsequential this year.

I think the culture is greatly impacted when Owner/GM Jones goes on radio today and says “this (Dak injury) does impact expectations.”

here’s the thing : we all know this defense is terrible, QB1 is now out, the oline is decimated. However, when the owner goes on radio and drops expectations it sends an awful message to the players that they have an excuse or an out.

the culture with this franchise is one of the worst in the league. Has been for awhile.

Umm, how is a roster with no Holmgren holdovers attributable to a culture Holmgren built?

Jimmy Johnson built a winning culture here. A few years of Switzer destroyed it. Culture doesn't magically transfer from one coach to another. All you are saying with your post is that you have an agenda...and poorly formed arguments to support it.
