What a fricking dumb assumption.

Think about it.

What happens when a team starts winning? You see bumper stickers all over the place, flags, stickers, hats, and jerseys. Where were they before? Coincedence? Granted, a high percentage of the people who are sporting those new items were fans before hand, but a few here and there are new bandwagoners.

I was asking for a stat. Has nothing to do with you or anyone in particular. Just curious if there is a high influx of new members now vs. when we were losing.

There has been an increase of activity on all Cowboys boards but I'm not sure that there's been a huge influx of new posters, just that many posters are much more interested in the Cowboys, hence are more active now than they were a few years ago.

Winning does that though, the same way losing decreases a person's interest. Look at some of the various Commanders boards. Their scout board seems to have half of the active posting members as they did one year ago and this site has more members logged on at any given time than ES does almost all the time now. Something unheard of a year ago.

Internet message boards don't really determine the measure of a fan imo. I'd respect much more a knowledgeable hard core fan who joined 5 months ago and has 58 posts more than the clown who's been here since 2000 with 11,452 posts who rants and raves about how great the Cowboys are and refutes all intelligent conversation. I think most of you guys fall into the first category, although I've seen a few jokers since the time I've been here. Winning brings the cockroaches out. Wait til you guys make the playoffs, then all the losers will brush off the ol' Deion jerseys and act like they've been paying attention all along.

How long you have been regsitered on the site is not a realistic sign of how big a fan you are.

A lot of people did not know about the site before they registered. A lot of people registered long ago only to be able to read threads but it doesn't mean they fully supported the team. A lot of fans from other teams have registered who may be bandwagon fans who jumped on the Cowboys bandwagon because they're winning now even though they registered two years ago as a fan of another team.

You can't use post counts either because some people are here all day every day but only post when they really have something to say.

Honestly, I recognize bandwagon fans by people who give up on the season when things go bad or say, they aren't going to watch the games or visit CZ just because some player is signed they hate or some player is starting they hate or their favorite player is released, etc.

One factor is other message boards having large changes or shutdowns.

Many came from the DMN boards years ago (I was one) when that board got so bad.

There have been others that have came from other boards for the same reason.

Another factor is breaking stories or pre-draft.

Around draft time I think we can expect some spikes of newer members. People that may just have been searching for dallas cowboys draft info and find message boards.

Breaking news stories, like the cowboys signing TO seemed to boost membership as well.

I am not so sure bandwagon fans have much to do with it. I am sure there are some but I don't think it is very large on cowboys message boards because they jump on or off so fast and if there were many they would have jumped off last season.

I left Detroit in 2004 myself and moved here with my wife and kids, but did have my sisters cousins etc. in Detroit.

Anyway, I don't or didn't buy the season tickets for the that reason, i.e. haveing Sunday Ticket Package. Second, to me, I miss out on too many things if I go to the game, so I only try to keep it to 2 games a year, which me and my buddy enjoy doing that.

Anyway, that is one expensive way to do it though, having both NFL Sunday Ticket and Season Tickets. I just feel like with HD package, I just like it at home, but I do enjoy my two games a year thing. Colts game was awesome and I expect this Saints game to be the same, seems like I picked the right two games to go to.

I totallly understand that. MOst people prefer the game on TV (in HD now) to the live game. I am just the opposite. I feel like I am missing something watching the game on tv. I have upper level seats so I can watch the defenses line up very well and I enjoy the chess match element of the game as much as anything. On tv you just dont get that, only quarterbacks and where they put the ball.

I do however have sunday ticket still because I like to flip around when the cowboys are away and play at 3 or 7. My wife complains about the extra 250 I spend every year on that, but its okay I just saccrifice other things!!

I tivo the eagles, giants and Commanders games every week so I can watch the division closely.

We recently jumped into the HD world and watching the nfl in HD is fantastic, but I still prefer the smell of stale beer, hot dogs and the crowd more. It is all preference!!!

yeah I never took it as you judging. It is just tough to get a barometer on people from the sign up date. you can however judge them on what they say and how they act after wins and particularly losses.

I didnt even know about message boards until I moved here, which is strange since was always doing something on the internet. I found one accidentally on the fort worth star telegram board and ever since then I have been posting whenever I have time!!!!

This always did amaze me...

I remember PT calling me out saying stupid stuff about me being a Cowboy fans becuse HE signed up on this board before I did, so, therefore, he knows more about the Cowboys then I do...

What kind of logic is that?

Anyway, who cares if someone jumps on the Cowboys train...I could care less! If they want to stay, cool...if they want to leave, see ya!

If a fan wants to join the Cowboy fanbase, are we scared the he/she might take a little Cowboy love away from us...and leave us with less Cowboy love?

Well I for one dont like anyone in a Deion jersey. Particularly Deion himself!

you are right on though. Winning always brings out the roaches. In 2004 there were a group of kids in my neighborhood, who in 03 had cowboys jerseys on all wearing owens eagles jerseys!! I imagine they were about 12-15 Now I see them all running around with cowboys owens jerseys on.

It is the same for every team, they all have them. One of my best friends is a patriots fan, been that way his whole life. So he had to take alot of crap in high school and college, I mean his most glorious day as a fan was watching steve grogan get his head taken off in the super bowl!! Anyway the pats win a superbowl and all of a sudden they are everywhere...he is like what the heck, these people cant name 5 guys on the team and here they are being the loudest about "their" team in the sports bars!!!

Its tough when this happens, particularly as a cowboys fan, most people think of cowboys fans as people who only root when we are winning, they have no appreciation for those of us are with the team at all times, like 89, 2000 etc. No one will believe that though.

i moved from ny to Dallas, left all my family behind just so that I could live in this market 4 years ago and be involved in everything cowboys and be a season ticket holder. How would you gauge my dedication based on my sign up date?

That's the very definition of a Bandwagon Fan!:D

Too many factors to consider. Some may not had a computer, some may not have had time, some too young. And does it really matter. If someone post and is not a troll, then welcome, rather they started liking Dallas now or back in 1960 or anytime in between.

I gaurantee that there are many young kids out there right now becoming Cowboy fans because they are seeing Tony Romo playing very well and see us winnig on National TV.

So the more the fans who want to jump on, welcome. Our Wagon is loaded, and we can carry more weight.

that was me with troy!
