Current Cap Space

Correct me if I’m wrong. We can be 100 million over the cap right now if we chose. Just have to be under it by the 1st Day of the new NFL year in March .

And we all know that number can be changed instantly anytime the Cowboy want to.

There is always more cap room if they want it.
Would you be willing to extend Ferg and Bland to get it? I don’t think there is anything left to do to get more besides them two. Q was an option but I think that ship has sailed.

It appears so. But they can’t sign any new players until they get back under the cap.

until that drop dead date, they can be over the cap. BUT they cannot sign anyone else if they are over the cap.

I think you can never sign anyone if that cap hit will take you over the cap.

This has us just over $8 million for 2026.
They have all the draft picks though at $885,000 per year. So it has not been updated since 6 or the 7 draft picks have signed.

2027 has us just over $7 million under. So that is not as bad as I thought. However, again not accounting draft picks actual contracts yet.
The salary cap is like a woman’s mood. It can be manipulated but at huge cost.

I believe the screen at over the cap is just showing top 51

The league allows you to only count the top 51 to get under he cap at the beginning of the league year in March

Before the first game, you have to count for everyone, including practice squad and dead money.

So, we’re actually well over the cap once you count the $42m dead money that is not counted in the top 51. The biggest hits are Zack Martin ($16.5m) and Osa ($16m), as well as Diggs ($6m).

Add in the approximately $4m for practice squad and the approximately $3m for Malachi, who has yet to sign, and we’re closer to being $35m to the bad.

Some of that will obviously go away when we do the final cutdown to 53z

The Cowboys can cut Dak next year after June 1st, freeing up $45M, and in 2018 $55M, they can easily bring in another QB and sign Pickens for several years.

With Ibrahim Al' Kabisi as the new capologist, I can now see us stronger in that department.
Adam Prasifka is and has been the director of salary cap and contracts for some time.

The new data engineer is likely on his team.
