Interesting, I was always led to believe it didn't matter how the newly signed player left their previous team. But I guess that's because of the relative secrecy about the comp pick formula.

Like Revis with NE. He was released by TB, so NE didn't lose anything by signing him and TB got no credit for losing him.

GB and BAL have made a habit of only signing players that have been released to protect their comp picks.
