The primary backup is TJ Bass.

If an injury happens at either tackle, Bass comes in and Smith is kicked outside to play left tackle. Guyton goes to right tackle if Steele is hurt.

That's the main option I think.

I don’t think the big guys, work out off-season as much as like wide receivers, or cornerbacks
They come into camp a little out of shape sometimes, could cardiovascularly be an issue
I’ve trained with football players, especially the big guys, they’re a little sloppy in off-season,
So you might be right, his body could be a little bit tired right now

I can live with that statement plus let me add to that They are a group we we can agree that this is the one group on the entire field that needs to work together as one like they're tied together with a little chain and harness around each other's hips and they have to be in unison or they'll look all sloppy and one's pulling the other the wrong way or forward or backwards and it takes a while for them to gel and get that feeling back to flow as a group..

Yes we have some weak spots at both tackles but I don't think there's anybody available that's gonna just fix it what we need is insurance we need a swing tackle a veteran a very good one that could be a long reliever if needed i'm not comfortable with the depth that's the problem we had Hoffman and Bass for the inside that was very comfortable if someone got hurt I knew they can hold down the Fort for a while we need something like that on the outside because as much as number 60 is not being talked about as much just because steel is worse,

We're not comfortable at either spot in my opinion this coaching staff needs to bring in not one but two veterans swing tackles two guys that are not raw like Nate Thomas and like our rookie and whoever else is out there named Cornelius I don't know who these guys are but that's the problem We need to roll with our starters that we had last year i'm fine with that but we need guys that you know can be long relievers injury concerns insurance whatever you want to call them we need better dudes that can step in if needed they don't have to play 17 games you gotta go find that veteran group need two of those at cut downs doesn't need to be now but we need to do it You cannot go through a season and end up with a Chaz Green filling in for one of these two dudes..

We ruined our season the last two seasons with injuries but the defense was horrible we can't now go into this season without some kind of backups at tackle that you know you can feel at least somewhat confident in 'cause right now none of that is on this team right now confident in 'cause right now none of that is on this team right now..

Every team has offensive line depth issues outside of may 2-3 teams.

This is a league-wide problem and has been for a long time.

A draft pick plus a couple of players on our bubble might pry away a depth tackle from a team, but otherwise, Dallas isn't entering the season much different than everyone else. In fact, the middle of our line is stellar compared to most.

But they shouldn't I don't think anybody here is delusional enough to think that they're so bad they're gonna lose their jobs the problem is the depth behind them there's nothing and I think they will do something that they're gonna let camp play out so everyone gets all the reps that they need for them to get a big picture but I think they're gonna bring in not one but 2 veterans swing tackle types guys that can play either side in an insurance they need depth i'm not worried about the starters we went through last year with them and they're fine not every team has five Pro Bowlers on any group..

And every single team has some problem on the offensive line either one or two guys are not up to par but they live with it they cover it up they scheme around it and they can but what we need is some insurance behind them 'cause not 1 dude on this team like Nate Thomas the rookie from Penn State or that Cornelius dude none of these dudes make me feel like if something did happen to any of those two at tackle that we'd be comfortable that's the problem and I think they will do that I think they know they better have some insurance or we're gonna have a couple chazz green moments..

Steele is a protected child by Jethro and Guyton is also
Bringing in someone that is expected to challenge for starting status would mean NGM admitting he made a mistake. He is still probably stinging about Mazi so less and less likely anything will happen

That's partly why I brought up some of the names. They're at least options for now. At least to tide us over until the waiver period. Maybe someone doesn't make a 53 that would be an upgrade for us. If not, at least there'd be a contingency plan. I genuinely think this might be a SB team if the team stays healthy. I don't want to sound delusional, but I really like this roster we have, except for tackle. It would be a real shame if we have a team that can win the Super Bowl, and Steele spoils it. The only team right now that, if we are fully healthy and playing at the level I think we can play at, might stand in our way would be the Rams....and maybe the Bears. That's how good I think the Cowboys might be. I'm not trying to say it's our year, but damn, this might be the closest the roster has been in a long time. Also, we haven't had the d word this offseason yet....at least compared to normal lol.

I genuinely hope he listens to Schotty. I think we are so close to being a SB caliber team that it'd be a shame if Steele ruins it. This might be our best team since 2014 or 2016. We have a legit defence FINALLY. Our offense should be dynamic again, and Aubrey and Anger are looking and sounding great. I like the coaching staff. Everything looks good except for one area. The ONLY Achilles heel, aside from injuries, that I can see on this roster is tackle, and especially RT with Steele (since it sounds like Guyton has actually stepped up).

Agreed, I don't think we should risk the trenches on Steele. I think by signing some cheap options, it gives us some weeks to kick the tires to see if any of them are better than Steele. If not, then there's always cutdown day.

Is he just devoid of enough talent to make it work? Has he peaked and this is who he is, or is there room for improvement?

Absent the signing of someone mentioned in this thread, Thomas is probably your swing tackle.

I don’t expect Decker considering his hangup in Detroit was money.

They need the Von Miller of offensive tackles. Just a veteran backup, and IF they actually recognize this problem and are inclined to address it, you just know that Stevie has a number in mind (probably like one for 2-3 million), and he won’t be budging. He will leave the hole over a couple of million. Been done before and I don’t expect change.
