Unfortunately... Parcells would take a LONG look at Martin if he was available...

I really don't think he would. Martin wouldn't be doing any better than Jones or Barber is doing right now with the way the blocking is going. Bill always says no matter who's running if there is no whole you're not going to gain any yards. And it is very true, I like Curtis Martin, but he really wouldn't give us anything we need, we have good runningbacks.

It would not surprise me if Dallas shows some interest in Martin. I think it would be surprising if they actually sign him. I don't think he would take the vet minimum. He may also be able to find a situation where he gets more of a guarantee to be the starter. Oakland? :D

I am a big Martin fan, but I would rather not have him in Dallas at this point in his career.

Also, on a personal level...as much as I respect Curtis Martin for being one of the good guys in football and being the most underrated player in the last 10 years...I can't stomach seeing him add career rushing yards, and get closer to Emmitt's total, in a Cowboys uniform.

BP brings in "his guys" mainly as stop gap measures.
Lets face it , when BP first inherited this team, there were a lot of stop gap mesures to install, and what better way to plug up holes than with personel that you already know, and have faith in their abilities?
Anderson was brought in because we had no number two RB,,Fergy was brought in because we are in the first year of a 3-4 transformation,,etc..etc..
We will begin to see BP, going away from the older expensive "his guy" vets as this team begins to solidify in his tenure,,, but thats not to say that BP wont always be in need of them, jsut less of them..... IMO.

What am I missing. Martin's coach -- who the owner indicated will return next year came out and said that Martin will be back as a Jet next year.

It doesn't sound like the Jets want to lose him.

I say hell yeah. If Jones, Barber and Tyson Thompson can't fend off Martin in camp then I'd be happy to find a role for the ol' war horse.

Eddie George wasn't brought here to be the featured back. A point missed by those who claim to think it was a bad idea to sign the guy. He was supoosed to be veteran back-up to come in and spell Jones for a series here or there.

Curtis Martin in a limited role would be great, plus his intangibles are invaluable. A year or two with our RBs and they could become better players in the long run.

Parcells loved Otis Smith, but he didn't bring him in ... even with the CB problems we were having last year.

What's it going to be then, eh?

Correct, but Martin is a year removed a very productive season. Smith was clearly on his last legs.

If Martin hit the open market, I would see him a Brown or Patriot before he was a Cowboy.

Very true, but Otis Smith wasn't a season or 12 games removed from the Pro Bowl like Curtis. When the Jets were right even with the loss of Chad.......Curtis averaged 4.6 had 12 TDs and almost 1700 yards in 2004.

When healthy with good supporting cast Curtis at age 31 was playing at an elite level. As a back-up in a limited role especially if the 3rd or 4th RB can't beat him in camp.......I am all for Curtis comin gto Dallas in 2006.

I didn't like the George signing at all. I thought he had an empty tank and wouldn't be a good back up. I may have been okay with it if they got him cheap, but they didn't. He wasn't worth the amount Dallas signed him for last year. He was only worth the vet minimum.

I do think that Martin next season would be better than George last season; however, Dallas will already be in better position with Julius, Marion and Tyson than they were with last year with rookie Julius and unknowns Lee and Bickerstaff. Dallas will probably also find a late draft pick or young free agent to bring in and compete.

But honestly, a 70 year old CB wasn't going to help.

Running back is one of the few positions on offense (along with tight end) that we have a pretty good deal of young talent. I really don't see this being a position we need to bring in some veteran, unless we unexpectedly lose Jones or Barber.

Yeah but can the Young talent play well consistently and stay healthy.

Anthony Thomas signing was great. He helped the RB core while Jones nursed his injury. I think Parcells was referring to Barber becoming better down the road ( I think he reference projecting players into week 6, 7 or 8) in training camp. Thus Thomas was a good signing while we wait of Barber to get acclimated. Thomas release I think concided with Barber 1st big game after performing well at picking up the blitz.

A healthy Curtis Martin at 32 is better than Anthony Thomas, whom I believe is on one of those hush hush lists with front office personnel due to off-field issues one more strike.................

Signing Martin would mean that BP was sacrificing the development of one of his young backs. BP likes Jones, Barber, and TT and thinks all of them are going to be pretty good. I just can't see him brining in a guy who would take plays away from those guys. In fact, one of them would likely lose their roster spot.

With what we have, I think we are done with brining in vet RBs.

Bill may love Martin and Martin may love Bill -- but both are smart enough to see that this is not the best situation for Martin. If Martin does go somewhere he'd want to play somewhere that he could get at least 10 carries a game.

My bet if Martin leaves, he's going back to the Pats.

Eddie George Part II

Not true. The Jets have no blocking for Curtis M. He has FAR more tread life at this point than George had when he was with Dallas.

CM isn't what he use to be, but he's not "Eddie George bad."

Why would the Patriots take Curtis Martin? They have Corey Dillon... remember the guy who had 1600 yds with them last year en route to their third superbowl?
